LINE OUT settings vs setting volume

I tried the line out setting and it really works!

Some of my units do not have volume out. What do I set the volume to in this case?

Presumably that should say "do not have line out".

It's best to turn off any bass/EQ settings, and preferably any button beep etc as well as getting a reasonable signal level. It also depends to an extent on the make of your portable. I've noticed that Sharp manuals suggest turning the volume right up to max, which I believe cancels the EQ settings anyway, and some Sony manuals (eg. for the MZ-R500) mention 27 (out of 30) as the optimum volume for 'connecting to a stereo system'.

Obviously it would be best to experiment with settings till it suits you, it's all a bit of a compromise anyway.
