joplin
Hi I would like to know which of the above is better? I want to get the best for my money and willing to pay up to $600 Canadian. How do the above compare to the old MZN-10? Any info is appreciated. Thanks Greg Joplin
mAjEsTiC
from what i've gathered the NH1 and NH900 are similar models with the NH900 using a removeable gumstick NiMH battery as oppose to the internal Li-Ion used in the NH1...if it were similar to the trend seen with the N910 and the N10 units currently available then the only differences are the way it is powered and aesthetic features...compared to the N10 i really wouldn't have a clue as i haven't got an NH1 yet (but i will buy it once it comes out) and until then i can't really do a comparative review of both these units...if u can afford to spend $600 Canadian u can afford the best...i would suggest that u wait a while until these units come out as they do offer more benefits than that of the N10 (i.e. bigger file and music storage, ability to u/l music from MD -> PC + apparently the ability to charge the battery via USB??? <- i only heard about this from my fwend and i hav'n confirmed it as yet...) woppin
anyone know if you can record to a non formatted disc using the new equipment. (as in use them as a storage device and use an old MD player for music)
BJ
I believe the new equipment will only record on an old-style MD once it's been reformatted--the new MD units will only play back the old stuff. Also, the Hi-MDs store the music and data in a weird way (like there's a certain space for data and a different space for music), so I don't think an old MD machine could figure it out. As for the NH1 vs the NH900, it looks like the NH1 has a lame display. I don't ever use my remote, and don't intend to start, so the nice big display on the 900 is more to my liking. Unfortunately, the NH1 has an all-magnesium body, and the 900 has an aluminum/plastic body (I'm assuming Sony is sticking with their tradition of a metal face and plastic back), which rubs me wrong. I'd rather have an all-metal unit. What can I say? I'm torn. :?
Guest Anonymous
well then what happens when you have a 74 min. disc that is half full? How are you going to record the rest if the new Hi MD doesn't record on it?
Guest Anonymous
Sony did say the Hi-MD units will offer full backwards compatibility, so I don't see why wouldn't they record on a standard-format disk. But then again, who knows... I don't care. I'll buy one anyway. The uploading feature is all I needed; so even if I have to re-record some stuff due to re-formatting of the discs I think it's still worthwhile.
