Guest Anonymous
I've dropped my Sony Mz-N707 too many times and I believe that I've screwed up something to do with it's volume jack. Basically it still works but the sounds is screwed, something is surely loose. Does anyone have an idea how much such a repair would cost me using the businesses the sony website referred me? If you know of any better alternatives, please post. I'm in canada, if that matters.
BJ
Geez...you might just want to spring for a Hi-MD unit in a couple months for what it'll cost. I know a loose 'phone jack was a problem in Sony's R-700s, and maybe the N707 has a similar problem if it's stressed too much. I never got an estimate, but I'm assuming it'll be pretty close to what the 707 cost new (about US$120 or more when all shipping and repair is done). My brother (and many others) had the same problem with his 700, so he just keeps it hooked up to his stereo as a recorder. The thing still makes beautiful recordings, though it looks like it's been at the business end of a train wreck. I'd say keep your 707 connected to your computer or stereo (or sell it on eBay) and invest in a newer model.
raintheory
My N707 took a nice spill down a set of 20 some concrete stairs while I was opening the package that it came in. I almost cried, I was sure I had killed it. But surprisingly enough, over a year later it still works fine. I would agree that it would be better to save the money you would spend on a repair and put it towards a Hi-MD recorder.
Christopher
From what I can tell, probably less than $100 us to fix it, but like rain said you're probably just better off waiting for Hi-MD. The N707 is a fine unit, though..and if you find good use out of it then get it repaired.
