How can I convert a normal MD back from HI-MD mode?

I put a blank Minidisc into my MZ-NH700 and recorded onto it. Because

the default disc mode is HI-MD, the recordings aren't playable on my

none HI-MD recorders. The manual says that, if one puts a blank MD (not

a HI-MD) into the recorder, it uses the disc mode, which is set in the

menu. So I deleted my MD, set Disc mode to MD and then re-inserted the

MD. However, it still records in HI-MD mode onto the disc. I can't seem

to find a way to convert it back to the none HI-MD format.

Is the conversion to HI-MD really irreversible?

Thanks

Menu --> Options --> DiscMode --> MD --> (Ent).

Insert Disc.

If the disc switches to Hi-MD, then :

Menu --> Edit --> Format --> (Ent)

Format is only visible in Hi-MD mode.

Format erases the TOC completely, including any tracking data, rendering the disc into the factory new state.

And only then Discmode decides.

Sony has done this deliberately to have discs preset for use in the desired mode. In addition, would disc mode trump above the discs content, the danger would be there to erase a disc accidentially instead of adding content in the same mode.
