Upload recordings to a .wav onto pc faster than realtime.

Sony really do need to hurry up on their .wav converter, I mean if a guy can make a basic program which can do the job in 1 day, then surely Sony has some PC freaks that can make a program in at least a month!

They've probably already done the core part of their .wav converter, its just not been released yet because

1) Sony are still designing a bulky ugly GUI frontend, just like they did with OpenMG, SonicStage and Simple Burner

2) Sony are still trying to decide if allowing to convert our OWN audio files from .oma to .wav is going to, in some way, effect their record sales.

marcnet, I downloaded you program, unziped it, and double clicked on the icon.  It ran using MS-DOS, but came up with an error "NO INPUT FILE", where do I go to specify wat the input file is? because it then goes on saying,  "press any key to exit" so I can't press  "I" for input file selection :S.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

Ah, this one I can help with... you need to run the program through dos:

1. open up a dos prompt: go to START - RUN. In the box type: cmd. Click OK

2. you now have to go to the directory that has "himdrender.exe" in it. Let's imagine that you're in c:documents and settingsuser

To get out of this type: cd c:

This will put you into your c drive

Then go to the directory with himdrender.exe in it.

For example, if the file is in

c:program fileshimdrendererhimdrender.exe

You'll need to type:

cd program fileshimdrenderer

3. Then you are in the right directory to use the program. Type in:

himdrender -i <name of file>

For example:

himdrender -i c:mymusicfilesminidiscrecordedfile.omg

And if you want to specify where to put it:

himdrender -i <name of input file> -o <name of output file>

Eg.

himdrender -i c:mymusicfilesminidiscrecordedfile.omg -o c:mymusicfilesmindiscwav filesrecordedfile.wav

I hope that's right, and that it works for you. Everyone can please feel free to edit/correct as they will, but I know that I needed a bit of a dos refresher before playing with this program!

Good luck!

Try using the GraphEdit method described on page 1 of this thread and see if that crashes.

Yep - it crashes. It says: "This graph can't play. One or more arguments are invalid."

Which I have a theory about... my uploaded files are saved as .omg, not as .oma as you mention in the method on page 1. Does this have something to do with it?

Hi there,

thanks for all your great work on the himdrender program! I've got a question: should the program also work with .omg files? I can't make it work but that's probably my fault because I'm not a DOS expert... But here is my problem: When I try to use the program with an .omg file Windows closes the himdrender program because it makes errors. In the output folder I found a .wav file of zero megabyte.

This is what I typed: c:himdrender -i c:test.omg -o c:temptest.wav -d

Below the logtext file of the error. Sorry it's a bit long... I use a dutch Windows 2000 so a few words are in dutch. If I need to translate the logfile tell me.

Thanks for replying,

papagoose

I tried to convert a 2 1/2 hour recording from OMA to WAV using it, and it ran, looked like it was working, then......."RepairWav => Failed map view of file Untitled5.oma.wav.tmp"

I ran into this exact same thing with long recordings.

Marc, I know you consider your source code very very preliminary/alpha/shaky right now, but you should consider releasing the source as soon as possible. Maybe even set up a project for it. I'm sure some wonderful things could be built on top of what you've done.

Naturally it's your call.

TO: papagoose and linzq:

Basically the OMG transform filter does not like receiving connections from the OMG source filter (or the other way around) and is crashing.

What versions of Sonicstage do you use?

Try re-installing the lastest Sonicstage (2.1), including the OpenMG secure modules.

^ I suspect this is related to my observation where Windows Media Player plays the file, but at the very end of the file comes across something that makes it think it's not a WAV file.

Maybe Marc's program when it adds on the last bit of converted WAV doesn't "close" the file correctly. I don't know what the right techo speack is, but you get my drift?

I opened the wav's with Adobe Audition (successor of CoolEdit) & Winamp and both play the waves without any hessitation.

Tested the program with 7 different files now (30 minutes) and I still didn't find any bugs here. Tested tracks from CD's via analog in:

- Meatloaf - I'll do anything for love (1994)

- Mr. Big - Wild World (1994)

- Phil Collins - Both sides of the story (1994)

- Svenson & Gielen - the beauty of silence (2003)

and 3 bad quality recordings.

I uploaded the following track for analysis:

Source Track: Mr. Big - Wild World

Source CD: Greatest Hits '94, volume 1

Editting steps:

- importing via SonicStage 2.1 in LP2 quality to library

- recording via SonicStage 2.1 in LP2 quality to MD-disc (NetMD)

- playing disc in MZ-N10 & recording it analog with NH700

- uploading track via SonicStage 2.1

- exporting track to wav with HIMDRENDER.EXE

- opening track with Adobe Audition 1.5

- saving wave-file as 192 kbps mp3 (Fraunhofer codec) with Adobe Audition.

AND STILL QUITE NICE QUALITY (although ripping the file directly to Hi-SP sounds better  !)

Aha! That'll fix it... I'm using Sonicstage 2.0.

Just in case anyone's looking for it, you can find Sonicstage 2.1 at www.connect.com/download.html

marcnet - thanks so much both for the program, and for your help.

With sonicstage 2.1 your himdrender.exe is working amazingly! It turned my 70Mb .oma into a 350 Mb .wav which I'm now converting into an .mp3, and it's great!

Thank you thank you thank you thank you!
