Thanks for that very thoughtful comparison. I wouldn't be thinking about switching at all if this glitch hadn't come up, first; now I have to ponder the flashcard/MD thing for a replacement unit (there are also the M-Audio Microtrack and the Roland Boss units). Ergh. Back to Audacity and recording from the M100. Everything I read (For the supplied Windows Simple Burner software, anyway) says all I do is plug in the M100 via USB and play to make the audio available to the computer. But it seems to me I'd need to connect it via a line-in, and in fact neither the Mac or Audacity can see the unit to even tag it as an input device. That's what I did in the end, connecting mini stereo to mini stereo line-in, monitoring with Audio Recorder while recording with Audacity, as I couldn't monitor the recording any other way. Worked just fine in the end, crisis averted. Thanks for everyone's input.
