  1. Yep, getting crashes even with non-ATRAC files, so I assume it's because it's a beta version... I'll have to wait for 5.5 to go on release (or for a more stable beta) before I can safely say whether it solves the problem of crashing when playing ATRAC files.
  2. Hmmm.... the latest release (5.35) doesn't work on my system for some reason - at all! When I launch it, the winamp.exe process simply hogs 98% of CPU time and never actually opens the application window! I'm sure it's something wrong with my system rather than with Winamp, but rather than dig fruitlessly I just downloaded the 5.5 Beta, which works fine, but crashes, and, being a Beta, I don't know whether it crashes because I'm playing ATRAC files or because it's buggy. I'll spend tonight playing loads of mp3s and WMAs and see if it still crashes, and, if it doesn't, take it from there...
  3. I was under the impression that Winamp versions 2.xx were identical in their innards to versions 5.xx except for the fact that they have the old-style interface and are lighter?
  4. I downloaded the in_atrac3.dll from this site, and although Winamp now plays .oma and .omg files just fine, it randomly crashes after it finishes playing one of these files. It's completely random, sometimes it'll crash after the first ATRAC file it plays, other times it'll go on for dozens of tracks before crashing, but it always does, and ONLY when I have ATRAC files queued up on my playlist, and always right after it has finished playing one of them (irrespective of whether the next file in the queue is another ATRAC file or an mp3, wma or any other kind of file). I'm using Winamp 2.5. Any ideas as to how I can fix this?
  5. Just did it myself and IT WORKS!!! Pretty damn awesome, I now officially adore this little gadget! £200 was ridiculous for it considering its flimsy plasticky build quality, but for me and my hundreds of MDs which had been begging to go onto my HDD all this time it's actually a good deal! My only gripe is why on earth does it pop up with a "Your destination directory could not be accessed" if I've specified anything but the default folder for it to save the imported tracks into?
  6. Thank you! I assume M200 is another name for it? I went and got one, will be trying it out soon. Hopefully it's what I'm looking for!
  7. Hi, I'm new to these forums, was linked to here from a PC-related forum. I've owned a MD player for 7 years, but, about two years ago, it stopped working from batteries. It still works fine with AC power and I use it to listen to music, but it's much more of a hassle to use it to record gigs without the battery power. I've been thinking about getting a HiMD for ages, but I was put off when I read that you can only upload HiMD tracks to your PC, not discs recorded using the standard MD format. So I got predictably excited when I read this: I've got loads of old MDs that I'd love to just transfer onto my PC but can't be bothered with the hassle of recording the whole disc via line-in and then slicing it into tracks - did your comment mean that you have successfully managed to upload old MDs recorded using classic MD recorders to your computer via USB? Are there any other players in the current line-up that can do this, or is this the only model? Also, does anyone know if this player goes by the same model number in the UK? I can find a player called "MZ-RH1" on several e-tailers, but I need to be sure that it's the same one and that it has the same capabilities (as some features are sometimes left out of European versions of Sony devices). Please tell me all you can about this device or link me to a site that will have more details on it! I may well have found what I've been looking for two years!
