  1. I bought the MZ-R700 last night, I love this thing thanks for the help guys! Of all the reading i've done on MD's I didn't realize that the discs come in cartridges, very cool. One more thing: It did come with a T-plug mic, I hooked the mic to the player, extended the cord that came with mic and hit record. but there was a lot of background hiss (high noise floor). Is it the mic making this hiss? Or the internal mic preamp on the MD? I had the rec level on manual and cranked up...
  2. Thanks for all the info guys. One last thing, how much noise do these devices make when recording?
  3. So I wouldn't be able to transfer recordings I made on MZ-R700 recorded discs from a NH-700? (If I buy one afterwords)
  4. The Hi-MD transfers would make it easier when i get back (backing trip). I might kick myself when I get back. And I could carry a few Hi-MD Discs rather than dozens of MD's. I was thinking that if the $40 md gets stolen on the road it wouldn't be a big deal. I wouldn't be worrying about it. And I could play with it today. still confused Is eBay or this forum the only place to look for the NH700?
  5. I've been browsing around again for a MD recorder. I was going to buy a NH700 but then I looked at craigslist and there's a MZ-R700 in my area for $40 with a stereo mic and 25 MD's. I was thinking that it might be better to spend less on a MD unit and get a better mic than I would be able to get if I went the NH700 route. I would most likely fill the discs and record them back to my PC when I return from the road. With 25 MD's that would mean: 25 Discs X 80min = 2000 Min's (?) I case anyone's wondering here's my old MD Quest
  6. Thanks for the quick info. I guess my fantasy price was a little too low! I was thinking of using Hi-SP for the music and vocal recordings and PCM for the Ambient sounds. Thanks for the help! The Quite american site started this whole recording idea a few years back.
  7. I'm looking around at recording options for some field recordings I'm going to make in Papua new guinea. I think MD is about my best bet, since Flash based units would fill up too quickly. I want to do some recordings of birds/ambient jungle sounds for future use in documentaries and some personal recordings of people/local music. I want to spend about $100 on a recorder. So I was thinking of the MZ-NH700 (Uses AA Batteries); what's a good price to pay for this used? Do I need a pre-amp for this? I might as well throw this in too, a decent microphone that can be "hidden" (binaurual?). And another mic for 'up-close' recordings. any help would be very appreciated
