  1. Thanks for the advice Still pondering (but I'm pestering the hell outta the sweet folks at taperssection in the meantime, too ) How do you think these mics react, in matters of frequencies ? I know my CSB are way too bass-heavy to my taste, so I'd be looking for something with a LOT of definition in the middle to high range of the spectrum.. And aren't the DSM mics omnis anyway ? it's really cardioids I'd need (that's pretty much the *one* thing I'm sure of at that point in time..) Thx for that one, and for the sample too.. but I think I really need cardioids, and don't seem to find any on the DPA site (save for the lavalier one..) ?
  2. I have been recording (stealth) live concerts for the past year or so and now my mics are dying. I'm going to have them fixed (they're a pair of CoreSound binaurals ) I've been using them together with a mz rh1 by sony, and I'll be sticking with it for as long as it lives, because i'm fully satisfied with it (as long as sonicstage doesn't fall into the equation, that is :-s) but I have noticed that even if I almost always record from the front row, I still get way too much audience noise and chatter. So I guess what i'm looking for here is a pair of cardioids. I've seen coresounds sells some, also I've been having a look at the soundprofessionals site - but i'm open to any suggestions and would want to know what you guys would suggest as the best cardioid mics to buy ? From what i've seen, I am quite convinced with the SP-CMC-4U, so i was wondering if there were any opinions against it ? Also, how solid are the contacts there ? The one problem I had with the CSB was at the level of the contacts between the microphone capsule and its cable; admittedly, they got submitted to very heavy duty, but after maybe a hundred gigs or so, each of them started crackling and/or cutting out and becoming altogether more and more unreliable.. so i know it's one of the details I really have to keep my eyes on. Also, I was wondering, if price was not an obstacle whatsoever, what would be the best stealth microphones money could buy, in matters of sound quality and fidelity ? And would you advice buying them, or do you get the idea that the gain in quality is not worth the additional investment ? Thanks a bunch in advance
  3. I did it on the same PC.. i suspect something must have gone badly wrong at startup this morning, because i rebooted and it let me copy the files and reimport them, while there was no way for that to work in the morning. So now the problem is solved.. what annoys me is that I don't have a wretched clue what the problem was to begin with or what fixed it in the end. I guess in the future I'll convert as soon as the files are downloaded, whatever the circumstances. Whatever it was, thanks to all for your help. Lesson learnt, and all..
  4. That's the way i usually do (i go PCM) - it's just this time i never got around to do the .wav conversion b/c i had to go away urgently. Hence the orphaned, unreadable ones. And Avrin > Copying them and re-impoting them is the first thing i tried, and it didn't lead anywhere (still unable to rename them, or to convert them into waves.) I happened to record .omas in the wrong folder in the past, and copying them into the "proper" one then re-importing them works, but ONLY if the initial import is still there (it can be erased afterwards but not before the copy has been reimported.) As for naming it back.. no chance to remember that one, i tried all the variations on it that'd come to my mind, but in vain Thank you guys anyway..
  5. I knew this would happen someday, but I didn't see it coming this time. I checked in teh FAQ and through the other topics, but i didn't see this issue tackled anywhere.. also, long time reader, first time poster, so hello everyone.. I do my recordings via a sony mz-rh1, meaning I then have to upload them through sonicstage, the software provided by sony. Files are stored on several external drives, in various folders, within other various folders, etc. The other day, I was reorganizing files and folders and I changed the name of one of the folders; turned out that it included, amongst other things, a folder with sonicstage files. I only got aware of this today, when I tried accessing these files, SS couldn't find them, i needed to re-provide the path, and then I could play them (as .oma) So far nothing to worry about, but it also turns that I cannot rename the files, or convert them to .wav - and that not only for the ones whose path got disturbed the other day, but for ALL OF THEM. When I want to convert them, I get an error message "non ATRAC files, or files that were not bought from a service can't be recorded as wave". For big parts of them I have been converting them as .wav already, and for another part I still have the original MCDs, but is there a way I can recover the library (turns out it's more than 1000 files in the meantime) without needing to reupload everything ? I'm sure it's a regular problem, and I ran a search through the forums, but without much result; then again I'm really panicking now. I remember reading about the evildom of SS when I was pondering what gear to get, and some guy had lost dozens of hours of interview because of this ? But I was getting the idea that was not to fear anymore with more recent versions of SS (I have a 3.04 version.) ? Thank you in advance for any help. edit : turns out that the files that were not part of the renamed path could still be recorded as wav or renamed. Still, in that subfolder there are hours of practice and i can't access them whatsoever.
