  1. I'm new to this forum and a novice mini-disk user. As I posted a few days ago, my Sony MZ-M100 unit was "taken from my car without permission" a few days ago and I need to replace it. In the process of trying to find an appropriate replacement I became thoroughly confused by all the various model numbers. Thanks to this forum (and one member in particular who seems to know his stuff), I now have at least a modicum of understanding of all the letters & numbers although it's still somewhat mind-numbing, (or maybe that's the drugs). 90% of the time I use it to record "field" interviews at a shelter for at risk teens. I already have a Sony Mic (ESM-DS70P), the carrying case, USB cable, and charger that came with my original unit so all I REALLY need is the recorder itself but I'm open to other options. I just need to make sure it has the functionality I need. I edit the interviews on my PC so I need a unit that can transfer the audio via USB (as opposed to real time), which - as I understand it - means I need a Hi-MD unit of some kind. I don't require "top-of-the-line" audio quality but would like good to excellent sound and a unit that's at least somewhat durable and not overly delicate. Based on those criteria it's been recommended that I look at an MZ-NH700, an RH10 or an RH1, although there are others that would also address my needs. So I'm in the market for a unit and want to thank this forum for the invaluable help (and A440 in particular). Please contact me if you have an option. Thanks so much. Kevin
  2. I WAS the owner of a Sony MZ-M100 recorder until it was stolen from my car last Friday evening. Bummer. It worked GREAT for my needs so now I want to replace it. But after looking around the past day or two I'm a bit lost. Since I originally bought it from a friend about a year ago, I never did any real research. However, now that I have to replace it I'm a bit overwhelmed by the number of models available. I have no idea if there's any kind of "standardization" amongst all the letters & numbers. Sony alone seems to have 20 different models. Yikes! There are dozens listed on eBay and other places but I have zero idea about what various units are worth, how well they're made, features, how well they work, and whether they'll be compatible with stuff I've already recorded with the Sony, (although that's not a major criteria). From my experience using it and from what I THINK I can tell looking at all these models listed, my little Sony MZ-M100 was a great little unit for my needs. The primary use is to record interviews in the field with an easy-to-use, portable unit that provides good to excellent audio quality. Most of the interviews I do are at places like a runaway shelter and other similar locations connected with an organization that helps at risk kids. I edit them at home on my PC so it's just getting a good quality recording that I use the machine for. (I also occasionally record some hand-drumming workshops.) Any advice? Thanks. Kevin
