  1. Just to update on this - eBay has come to the rescue and provided me with a suitable playback deck. Many thanks to everyone for the assistance, and for the offers of help, but I am now sorted. Incidentally, if anyone else in the UK is similarly stuck, then this company in Scotland seems to still haev JE780 decks in stock: https://images2.co.uk/
  2. OK, I have just spoken to my local Sony Centre. This is what they said: The only current Sony Minidisc recorder available in the UK is the MZ-RH1, selling at 249.99 GBP. The JE480 is still stocked, but will cease to be available when the residual stock is exhausted. The 480 does not have a digital output anyway. The JE780 is discontinued and has been unavailable for around 18 months in the UK. So it sounds like those places still selling the JE480 are just using up existing stock.
  3. Thanks People. The recordings are not brilliant quality, but I'm looking to preserve as much as possible, so an all-digital method is my preference. The RH1 is quite pricey here in the UK, so I think I'll need to find a cheaper deck with a digital output of some sort. Sony's MDS-JE780 would be the obvious choice, but that's no longer available it seems :-( It seems quite hard to find any Minidisc decks at all now! Those that are still available are all end-of-line, "reduced to clear" type items, and none seem to have digital outputs. Are there any still available which have digital outputs? If not, then I guess I'll have to splash out on an RH1 !
  4. Hello all! I hope this is the right place to ask this - apologies if not. I have about 15 minidiscs, each containing around 90 minutes of recording made in LP2 mode, and I'm looking for a way to transfer these onto CD. What's the best way to achieve this? If I get a Minidisc machine with a USB connection, can this be used to transfer the recordings from Minidisc to PC, or does it only work the other way around? Would I be better off getting a Minidisc deck with a digital audio output and connecting this to the S/PDIF input on a sound card? If it makes any difference, the recordings were made on a Panasonic SJ-MR220 via the Microphone input. Any advice appreciated!
