it is for recording lectures, where can i get these preamps pelase?

I bought a Sony MZ-NH600 in the description is says it can record usb in, analogue in and digital in. but the line input says optical, when i plug my standard microphone into it, it wont record. does anyone know if there is something i am missing here??
