  1. According to B&H Photo, HHB blank MDs have a 50 year archival life. I'm not about start backing up all my audio on MDs for archival but my production company uses three sources for all audio: hard disk (either HDD or SSD), Blu-Ray (BD-R Archival Grade) and original source (i.e. tapes or minidiscs if not recorded directly to hard drive). So is there any validity to this 50 year lifespan claim? Anyone have MDs from the early 90's are ready to kick the bucket? We still record on MD for projects because it's cheap and the quality is acceptable for what we do. All that audio is archived on modern media, like I said, but it's good to keep original source material in case hard drives crash or BD-Rs get scratched or burn in a fire etc. It's simply good to have that safety net of the original source. So anyone know if maybe Sony ever said in press release what MDs were designed to last for?
  2. It's individuals. I know how much blanks usually go for I was curious as to whether or not I was missing something and they were hugely rare.
  3. I may be getting a Tascam 564 and was wondering how long the recording time is on an MD Data disc with 4 tracks?
  4. How much do these go for? I can get them for $8 each but that sounds steep or are they worth that?

    QWERTY Keyboards?

Are there universal remotes with QWERTY keyboard that could be programmed for MD players? i.e. could by MD deck by sharp be programmed to recognize it?
  6. Hey, I'd be willing to offer this release on both MD and Hi-MD if I can get a volunteer to help make the Hi-MD versions. Any takers? Only need one!
  7. When I say new, I mean a new release by an independent artist. Not an old but sealed pre-recorded MD. It wouldn't really be a pre-recorded MD in the traditional sense but it would be an MD with pre-recorded content, in nice packaging, a quality printed label and of course labeled tracks and disc. I'm a member of a film group called Divine Comedies. We also have a comedy group called Niente Peaches. We're working on some audio content that will be released on the web but we're hoping to nclude MiniDisc in a campaign we're calling "Format Fanatics Unite!" This will be releases of the same content but on other media. We'd sell the MiniDiscs at cost with complete packaging including inserts and labels. We'll do the same for our cassette and 8-track releases. My only question is, is anyone here interested in a MiniDisc release? Assuming you like the content of course. Anyone don't care about the content and just want one as a souvenir if they look nice?

    QWERTY Keyboards?

interesting. i wonder if a remote control socket could be modded to accept a keyboard. but there may be internal logic allowing a keyboard to recognized. sometimes with technologies, like minidisc, unlikely devices come with functions that aren't advertised but exit none the less. maybe an unsuspecting md device has the proper drivers to accept a keyboard?
  9. Someone told me there was a TASCAM MD deck that had a built in QWERTY keypad on it for easy disc/track labeling. I've never seen it anywhere, is it super rare?

    FS: MZ-NH600D

The blank minidisc itself has been spoken for but the unit and software is still available!
  11. Hi, I have a Sony MZ-NH600D with it's original software. I'm selling for $10 because it's sold AS-IS. KEEP READING! It says "Read Error." I posted about this issue on the board with no results, but perhaps someone out there can fix it. It comes with a blank Hi-MD and the original software. If anything, you'll get software and blank Hi-MD. And yes, I checked it's the disc that's broken it is in fact the unit. So I'm asking $10 and 2 standrad blank MiniDiscs? Sound fair? I can negotiate. Let me know!

    BUMP: Any help with this?
  13. Haven't checked in a while. But in 2008 there were Hi-MDs on sale on the floor in NY Sony Style. Standard MDs are still available on Sony Style but they aren't the best price you can find.

    Optical Recording

i was a bit confused too, thanks for clarifying. What about chapters on a dvd? will there be track marking?
  15. I'd love to get a hold of one. I've seen many end on eBay at a reasonable price but I always seem to miss them. PM me if you have one. I can fit DIN and double DIN.
  16. PM a couple days ago, did you receive it?
  17. yes it is. and the album "Issues." there are two here.

    Optical Recording

i'm not really worried about improving sound quality. my macpro is equipped to handle 7.1 surround and lossless audio for advanced audio production. i'm more worried about the track marking ability. it says it can in fact do that but i want to be sure before i spend $15.

    Optical Recording

that stinks! oh well, it's not the end of the world. how about this: recording from pc/mac to md: let's say i put a playlist together in itunes and hook in my md recorder to the optical port. will there be track marks the same way? also will the meta data from itunes carry over to the md? does meta data carry over in optical in any way for any device?

    Optical Recording

that's interesting, i've never had that issue with analog. but i just a successful test with the optical! all tracks recorded, with great sound and all tracks marked! it must have been the dvd player, i tried a cd changer this time. does optical recording work the other way? let's say i'm using soundtrack pro, garage band, audacity or any other audio recording software. if i hook up my md to the optical port on my mac will the tracks be marked again? i understand that i wouldn't get the meta-data but what about track marking? that'd be great!

    NH6000 issues

i tried out my friend's hi-md player and found that for any disc, even regular mds the unit could not read them. i tried running an md cleaner but it wouldnt even play. the cleaner doesn't work unless you can at least start playing the 1st track and this unit won't even get that far. should i leave the cleaner in there regardless of the fact that it wont read? or is there something entirely different wrong with this unit? sound familiar to anyone?
