Ah, ok, the part about having the battery box was what I was thinking would be more likely. I don't really have the budget to buy a Hi-MD unit though and I don't mind simply recording it back onto the computer, analog style (i would primarily be using this for field recording). hi, i'm new to the forum, so this is likely a newb question for a lot of people but i have a certain dilemma concerning a used sony mzn-510 model i bought off craigslist. i had not done my research properly and thought that i could simply attach an electret condenser mic (like the ecm ds70p) to the Optical/Line In, as I mistakenly read somewhere that this could be done. I only realise now that I needed a recorder with a Mic In to provide enough preamp power so I'm wondering if there's anything I can attach to turn the mic to line level? Could I potentially use something like a volume headphone control or would I need to provide more preamp power using something like a battery box? Also, would that be worth too much trouble and am i better off just selling this one off and finding a model with a Mic In like this one: http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/ele/1154564336.html Thanks!
