  1. thanks to both of you, that helps a lot. So I'm making the purchase mostly for the cheap discs (yes this is a good buy), but I can't see what I'll be using the player for. Aren't player-only minidisc models just collectors items now that very little music has made its way to minidisc? Is there some other use for them/some other way to write onto the discs? I thought the selling point of MDs was the option to pack lots of music onto one blank disc, but it doesn't seem like the F40 has that capability. Let me know if I'm way off, I was too young to keep up with emerging technology in the 90s so I don't have much of a frame of reference. thanks again!
  2. Hi everyone. My mother is a folklorist who will be using minidisc equipment to record stories in north africa. Someone gave her a sony mz-nh1 recorder yesterday with only two 1GB discs. That is not enough for her, and we can't find any place in town to buy hi-MD discs. I would order online but she's leaving on monday. I did, however, find someone selling a Sony MZ-F40 for very cheap, along with 12 discs. Does the mz-f40 have a recording function? If it doesn't, will I be able to use the nh1 to record audio onto the old MD discs? Thanks for your time. I appreciate the help.
