hi all, before the ps3's release one of the main selling points was the fact that it had hdmi connectivity and could display at 1080p (which the 360 couldn't, at that time anyway) so my question is this. if the ps3 can display at 1080p and sony made such a big deal about that fact, why is it that every time i go to purchase a game and flip over the case it states that it can only be displayed at 720p!!! this is lucicrous y design a system that can output a display at optimum levels and then design your games to display at a lesser rate. this just doesnt make sense at all. the 360 is now able to display at 1080p and suprise suprise the games are now coming out at 1080p. dont get me wrong there are games that display at 1080p on the ps3 but not enough of them. it is a totally pointless practice imo. well done sony just another cock up to add to your sad pathetic list of cock ups!!! (which is growing by the day with the equalizer on the nwa806, but thats another argument)

ok i will email u the tracks tomorrow morning, as im off to work in a bit.
-
ok i tried both aac and mp3 files for the same song. and it STILL distorts at the start. its not only the one song its all songs that have a fade-in (or fade-out for that matter). the only way i can describe it is if u get digital freezing or pixelation with a freeview box u tend to get a high pitched tone for a split second. its a bit like that but not as harsh sounding. i cannot stand the standard eq with this player (i like more bass and more treble). do u think it could be a bad batch maybe? i think im gonna have to sell it if i cant solve the problem. this has really annoyed me because apart from this, the player is by far the best on the market. what a shame. looks like ill have to settle with using my nws706, which i have NO distortion with whatever the eq setting. the sq on that player is quite remarkable. does anyone have any solutions for this problem and has anyone else had the same problem apart from the ppl above???
-
i used atrac3plus at 192kbps. the eq setting doesn't matter it does it on ANY custom eq no matter how u set it. im really getting pissed off with it now, cus its really noticeable. i'll try encoding some of my music to aac files to see if it does it with them. also i dont no wether anyone else has noticed this but the music i have imported with sonicstage 4.3 that came on the disc with the player sound much fresher than tracks encoded with the downloaded version of sonicstage. just wondered wether anyone else had noticed it. anyhoo ill encode my files at aac and let u no the results. if it doesnt solve the problem i think i may have to sell the player and stick with my nws706.

i have noticed that when i choose one of the manual eq settings on the player and i play a song that has a fade-in at the begging of a song, there is A LOT of interference. (ie hissing which is nothing new with sonys, but i also here static pops and distortion to the track) i havent got the volume too high and have tried different headphones and also turning off the sound enhancers but i still get it. the only way i can stop it is by having no eq on, and having the sound quality as normal. has anyone else noticed this or could my device be faulty???

cheers zizone. gq smooth i would have done that. but i think he was so brainwashed by the whole ipod earphones and looking cool thing that he would not have noticed anyway. dont get me wrong ipods are good mp3 players (especially now they have gapless playback for mp3 and aac files) and also the itunes software is the best music software ive used, but the sound quality (and battery life) are just awful. they claim you can get 24 hours without charge??? no way i got about 12 if i was lucky. and the sound quality makes cds sound like they have been recorded in a tin can (and i have used some pretty expensive headphones on them well over £100 worth). the ultimate compromise would be sony mp3 players with the WHOLE gapless thing (ie not just atrac) and itunes software! also a drag and drop feature on the player. this doesnt really bother me all that much but i know it matters to a lot of ppl. p.s dura i work in a shop and i certainly dont class myself or other ppl i work with as stupid. u have a narrow-minded opinion (in my opinion)lol

hi all. i was in my local comet this morning and decided to take a look at the new nwa80x video walkman. at the first glance i was clambering around trying to get the attention of a salesman so i could purchase one. this thing is amazing, i couldnt get over the size of it. imho the size is perfect, the player is small but the screen size has not been compromised. once i got the attention of a salesman he checked if they were in stock, and they were, great!!! he then decided to say (and i quote him on this) "in my opinion you would be better going for an ipod" what?!!? i replied, have you heard the sound quality on an ipod i asked, "yeah but you look cool with the white earphones in" was his reply. at this point i had to refrain myself from twatting him one in the middle of the shop floor lol!!! anyway after my brother calmed me down i made my purchase and i have to say this is by far the best mp3 player ive ever owned. (and ive owned a fair few, almost all the sony range and most ipods and others too). The video and sound quality is amazing. simply the best. well done sony. now all we need is this little beauty with drag and drop, and also gapless playback for mp3, wma, and aac. truly maginifcent.

oh ok. so what is the point in asking for a bit-rate before you rip the cd? for walkmans that dont support atrac lossless natively? also what difference does the bit-rate selection make? i noticed a small difference in file size, but i was just wondering wether there was any noticable difference to sound quality.

hi everyone, i have a question about the atrac advanced lossless codec. as i understand it the whole point of the codec is that u have 2 copies of the file. one which is the lossless file which stays on your computer, and the other file is basically your atrac file (hence the reason it asks you to specify a bit-rate before ripping all your cd's), which is then transfered to your device. am i right or not??? because evertime i put a lossless file on my nws706 it is the same size as the file on my computer (usually about 30mb). doesnt this kind of defeat the point of this lossless codec in the first place??? or once again am i wrong??? any help with this would be greatly appreciated. CHEERS!!! p.s sorry for posting this in the wrong area, my bad
