    A Challenge

Good afternoon. I've been having some issues with my mp3 player and I stumbled upon this site by accident and figured you might be able to help me out... hello. Here's the thing: I've got the sony walkman (I think it's a)NWA-A1000, the 6gb model. Obviously this means I have to use CONNECT Player as well. And that's fine. The player is a little slow at various points, but we all know that. For a while, I was perfectly pleased with my purchase. However a couple of weeks ago I booted up the PC and was greeted to my concern with a nasty blue screen and a lot of incomprehensible stuff about corrupted memory and how Windows was delteting the problem files and this and that and blah, blah, blah. Eventually I persuaded it to load Windows and let me log in, but not before I had spotted, oddly, the name of one of the EPs I had loaded into my Connect library embroiled in all the technical information on the screen. This I found bizarre, but I was pleased to find that my computer wasn't entirely dead so I let it go. Then I opened Connect, was told that the database was corrupt and was presented with the horrible text below the library view - 'no files'. This was reinforced on the other screens - 'no artists', 'no genres' and most certainly 'no albums'. I was fairly annoyed. I've spent a lot of time loading all of my CDs for Walkman use and to be told that all the files were gone was quite unpleasant. However, the files were all present and correct and hidden in My Music. So I imported the directory and all was (mostly) good again, except that closing the player causes it to forget all the files again. Perhaps this is a common complaint. That's why I read the Connect player FAQ on this very board, and discovered that by uninstalling and reinstalling (making sure that the library was also deleted) I could continue on my music-loving way without having to wait 45 minutes for connect to import all my files every time I want to listen to them. Except that there doesn't seem to be a library in the claimed location, and therefore I still am left with the problem. So I challenge you far more knowledgeable lot to help me sort this out... One other thing. My home PC has no net connection, so I can't download any updates... Actually one final other thing: what does tinyhttp.exe do, exactly, and why is it constantly crashing when I close Connect? Has it anything to do with the problem I have? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long message...
