Hi Tony,
I have never had much luck with those remanufactured gumstick batteries. I spent a few hours mucking about in the spring trying to get enough charge via a cradle into one to power a player to play just one minidisc but failed. I gave up and haven't looked at the gumstick players I have since.
I expect I will have another go sometime, but the best portable players are the ones with the bump on the back that take the AA batteries or those that take a AA battery caddy on the bottom.
I think the gumstick players are unreliable now, because of a combination of sub-par (lower amp hour) batteries and old mechanics which use a slightly greater amount of power to run due to age.
I am sure you will have a lot more fun with the Hifi system component player that you have bought or maybe you could fit a minidisc player in your car?
Cheers Mel.
