For those who are not aware: The only way to transfer your files from say a laptop (as in my case) to a PC is the following as instructed by Sony UK: Backup the files using the Sonicstage bakup software. Note exit Sonicstage Link the two computers (best done by an ethernet crossover cable not a normal CAT 5 cable!) To do this in XP: Go to network connections on the PC with the files being transfered Right click on the local network connection (the one for your NIC) Select properties Click the general tab and scroll down to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and highlight this. Select properties. Click on use the following IP address. Enter an address say 192.168.1.1, hit tab and make sure the subnet mask fills in automatically. Hit OK On the folder with the backup files right click and click on sharing and security and then the sharing tab. Click on share this folder Do the same on the PC receiving the files BUT the IP address shall be one higher: 192.168.1.2. No need to share folders on this PC Go to Windows Explorer (right click on start button) Click My Network/Entire Network Places/Microsoft Windows Network. You will see the PC being copied from and the PC you are using to copy to. Open the PC being copied from and locate the backup folder Just drag to the place you wish to copy to in Win Explorer. Do not copy just the files within the folder, it must be the complete backup folder. You can then import the backup via Sonicstage, note it will go through an authorisation stage. To finish reset the network connections on both computers by clicking on the option "Obtain an IP address automatically" once you have selected "internet protocol (TCP/IP)" and then properties. I take no resposnsibility for the above but it work for me seamlessly.
