  1. Industry professionals chose macs over PCs for a reason: stability. Windows is a joke, OS X pisses all over windows, to say mac computers are some of the worst, is a bit of a stretch.
  2. Has anyone noticed that if there is a 2CD album, the HD5 (not sure about other units) does not organize them properly? Suppose its the ID3 tag info is as follows: Artist: Paul Oakenfold Album: Great Wall Track: Nugen - Darksides Track #: 1 Disc: 1 of 2 and then there is Artist: Paul Oakenfold Album: Great Wall Track: Paul Godfrey - Fear Track #: 1 Disc: 2 of 2 When i look at my library in my HD5, the first track of disc two is played immediately after the first track of disc one. Why doesnt it organize it by discs? Should the first disc entirely be played first in proper order and then the second one as opposed going back and forth between discs? The only solution ive found to this is renaming albums to "Great Wall CD1" and "Great Wall CD2"....not a big issue but id prefer not to since all 400+ of my albums are done this way.
  3. yup, i get the same thing. doesnt bother me really, i mean, i dont care whats on the unit or how it looks in SonicStage, i never plugin my HD5 to play tracks off the comp, i always use my choons from the comps hard drive.

yup i did all of those steps, ive got a sony nw-hd5, yes the device does show and displays existing tracks transferred by SS or nothing if starting from scratch like u suggested.

nothing happens when i click "send to"
  6. Which version do i use? i see a bunch of links pointing to "this is applicable to nw-e75....." i dont see any that supports the HD5?

I dont see the "apply" button and sending tracks to the player does nothing....ugh. i cant import a LOT of my mp3s into sonicstage so i need a workaround. WTF!!!
  8. Yep, i get an error when i try and import some basic tracks. It gives me a friendly "Cannot find files of the specified format for support" and it goes on telling me this bollocks: "Error Code 00007173" Ive even tried adding .mp3 extension to the files, still nothing. Any suggestions? Update: WELL THATS FUCKNG GREAT!!! Now some tracks from certain albums dont want to import!!! So i get like HALF the album going into Sonicstage!!!!! And some tracks, even after being imported to SS, dont want to transfer to my HD5. LAME!!!!
  9. well i bought it anyway, and i read some other forums and apparently it DOES playback in proper order based on track # ID3 tag fields. im just about to copy some choons to it so im very VERYN excited. unfortunately i got the silver model, my least desired one but at least it will always look good, silver never gets boring
  10. Are all mp3s imported into sonicstage and dropped onto the HD5 ordered properly? Does it recognize all tags (artist, album, song, and track #?) and organize them? My main concern is the tracks being in proper order, from 1-10 for example as ALL of my music is based on DJ mixes, if i import 2,000 songs and non of them are ordered properly, i will be very pissed. Does that "GYM" and other thing for the hd5 handle it the same? I might buy the HD5 tomorrow at a local electronics shop for 215 bucks US (sadly in silver).
  11. I never knew some companies neglected their number one priority: their customers. They are, afterall, what makes Apple exist to today (at least the dumb ones: "omfg, ipod! fap fap! its so sexy and i dont care if its a shit product, it just looks nice!!!) Anyways, as the title of the thread says, yes thats right, Apple responded to a third graders letter with suggestions on how to improve the ipod (gee, you know a product sucks when even a third grader can name you its flaws). Heres the story, watch the video in Flash: http://cbs5.com/investigates/local_story_103023852.html
  12. I'm not saying that they have to go back to it, aesthetically it was OK. But the basic specs on the unit was what made the HD5 an amazing product: -small size -removable battery -30/40 hour battery life for mp3/atrac -20gb storage -excellent sound quality All sony needs to do is make another hard drive dap, add a scroll wheel, and finally give users the possibility of 6band EQ for mp3s, and theyve got an AMAZING unit thats guaranteed to sell (unless they make it ugly). Now, the real problem is: Sony doesn't seem to care about profits in the mp3 player market, and even if it does, theyre going about it wrong; they need to advertise more.
  13. sony doesnt need to do anything except re-produce the HD5 with a scroll wheel and 5band EQ for mp3s. Why they havent is beyond me, but proof that sony doesnt really care.
  14. I render these players as useless and consumer failures for THESE reasons: 1. Non removable battery 2. Less than impressive battery life (18? Thats pulling an ipod) 3. Most likely no 5band EQ for mp3s 4. No scroll wheel or jog wheel for REAL quick navigation, buttons are a drag 5. 1gb capacity sucks 6. $150 for 1gb is lame. 7. Proprietary software to upload music, again pulling an ipod. I could forgive sony for #3 if it had a good treble boost preset and #7 if S.S. was as easy, quick and organized as itunes, but the rest are unacceptable. Sony claims that 1gb holds a "LOT" of music. Oh yeah? Well, navigation SUCKS when you put buttons on them. Sony does a lot of things right, used to do everything right years back, lately sonys been doing more WRONG than right with the dap market. Anyway, im still waiting for a NW-HD5 successor with scroll wheel and 5band EQ for mp3s. The rest of its features were PERFECT.
  15. my fucking god..... When will they make ALL portables with REMOVABLE BATTERIES?!?! The simplest concept and one that makes a portable product TRULY portable, is OVERLOOKED!!!! I swear to god, my head is going to explode if this idiotic decision keeps happening across sony daps and others. Virtually every walkman, discman, and early flash mp3 players had a removable battery, what the hell makes them think THIS crap is better??! IM TIRED OF THIS!!!!!!!! GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
  16. -CE-P17: 1GB, black and gold colour, RMB1199 (approx US$150) -CE-P15: 512MB, black, silver and red colour, RMB999 (approx US$125) -CE-P13: 256MB, black, silver and red colour, RMB799 (approx US$100) source: http://www.dapreview.net/comment.php?comment.news.3163 Does anyone have any other info?

    Rockbox on Sony HD5

Ok, is this even possible? How difficult would it be to take down the HD5s firmwire? Sonys known to be almost as limiting as apple when it comes to mp3 players, for example, the fact that they never implemented a 5band EQ on mp3s, however they did for atrac (unforgiveable). So, again, is it possible? For those of you who dont know what it is, its changing the UI and GUI as well as other capabilities (OGG support for example) by using different firmwire. Here are some sample of the GUIs found on other DAPs using rockbox:
  18. What kind of figure are we looking at? I have had the same problem happen to previous minidisc recorders, and have THE SAME problem going on in my iAudio mp3 player....
  19. I dont want to edit tags though, itunes does all that for me. For playback on my computer i only use itunes. The ID3 tags will ALL be properly tagged before being transferd to any mp3 player. Wat i want to know is, does the HD5 handle ID3 tags and sort them just the way itunes and ipod does? And, can i just drop a folder with about 2,000 mp3s in subfolders all organized by artists, then albums, and expect everything to appear on the HD5 like it would on an ipod/itunes?
  20. Ive taken a quick look at the GYM software things look very promising. A few questions though in reference to the 3rd party software: 1) Is there a way to upload MP3s without sonicstage? If so; when uploading MP3s to the Sony HD5, are ID3 tags used exactly like on the iPod? Will it handle and display all my artists, and albums as the iPod? Basically, i want to organize ALL of my mp3s by Artist, then by Album. Heres a screenshot of how my mp3 library looks like: http://www.kamilmytnik.com/Shared/id3.jpg 2) How does transferring MP3s for the HD5 to playback exactly work without using sonicstage? Can I just take a folder with many subfolders of about 15gb of music, all in MP3 format, drag and drop and have all the MP3s on the sony sorted by ID3 tags just like on the ipod? Or does it require more steps? 3) Has there been any hack to give MP3 files full 5band EQ? I usually like to have my music setup to full treble and 75% bass, currently i have itunes like this: http://i1.tinypic.com/mt2ty9.jpg How does the HD5s stock bass/treble adjustment measure up to its 5band EQ? Am i losing out on much? does the 2band EQ work well? 4) AGAIN: Given the way iTunes looks and how ive got my mp3s organized (all of my music is tagged to my liking) will the HD5 handle and display my music like itunes and the iPod? This is my #1 priority. Thanks a lot, if #1 turns out to be the way i hope it does, i think ill buy it. Ive been wanting it for some time now.
  21. This looks very promising. A few questions as i really dont have the time to go through 40+ pages of info to find what im looking for (assuming its even there). 1) When uploading MP3s to the Sony HD5, are ID3 tags used exactly like on the iPod? Will it handle and display all my artists, and albums as the iPod? Basically, i want to organize my mp3s by Artist, then Album. 22. Seeing how creative has gotten their patented interface system, apple will now have a hard time keeping its interface, since its a blatant ripoff from creative. This means, creative will either ask for compensation and royalties, or deny apple the use of THEIR patent. Good for creative. And not only good for apple for finally being shut down (deservingly) but this makes it harder for other companys to get "creative" and "innovative" and when i say innovative, i dont mean being like apple and stealing ideas/adding one new feature each time an ipod is released.
  23. Now how about a hack for the 6band EQ to be available for MP3 files?
  24. Hey man, yah its been a while....but you prolly know why Anyway, i never got a pc laptop, im a student and cant afford TOO many things all at once, i know i dont NEED the sony mp3 player, but it is a good investment for me since i *DO* listen to music almost 100% of the time that im awake. But apple is releasing intel based macs next year, and might be having intel powerbooks on sale as early as january, *IF* that happens, i might sell my dual G4 and get that, partition the hard drive in two and install OS X along with Windows on it and have best of both worlds. Thanks for the answer though, also, reading page 83 of the online manual, shows that the battery *IS* removable: With this being said, i will return the mp3 player for now, and buy it later when i get a good working copy of windows not running from my G4 mac. Im very excited
