It's all about the right player and then pairing it with the right phones for it, I find.. In my case I found the 'right' one in the nw-a800.

Had the chance to compare my nw-a808 with a nw-S700. Had the same sound experience as DSP wrote about, and do also prefer the NW-A800 SQ.

Find that using AKG 81 DJ phones with my NW-A808 gives a spatial warm sound, don't experience harshness/listening fatigue when using CB+1 +1 0 -1 +1 +1, without dse/normalizer/clear stereo! I'm using the JAP NW-a808 without the Euro volume limit though which might make it easier for the player to drive these phones, already loud enough on +17 out of 30!

Would like to recommend pairing the NW-A800 with the AKG K26P, they form a great team! Prefer the AKG's over the buds that came with my NW-A808.The closed-back design gives the deepest, cleanest bass I've ever heard in a pair of portables and give crisp, detailed mids+highs.

Just had another look in the manual, think I have a wrong idea of what ON_HOLD display in video settings actually does. Still don't have a clue what it does however! Can anybody explain what the ON_HOLD display setting yes/no in VIDEO SETTINGS is supposed to do?

When I have the HOLD button up, I should only get that message with ON HOLD DISPLAY to YES in video settings. I now also get the on screen warning with ON HOLD DISPLAY set to NO. Weird because before it would stay blank in that setting....

Since a couple of weeks I'm the proud owner of a Japanese NW-A808. This player is fantastic, great sound. Today something strange happened, the ON-HOLD display function found in Video Settings which is supposed to keep the screen blank when activated seems to be not working. With ON-HOLD display:NO, I still get the onscreen warning that HOLD is activated, before today it would however keep the screen blank(to save power). I have been carefull in using the player, no drops etc and use the sony leather case. Anybody got any suggestions what is going on?/How to solve it? Thanks in advance!
