And to add a bit more into it.... the original upgrade firmware i downloaded (201) has worked for the first time after I upgraded the NW-E407 with 200.

It seems that there's two versions of the .upg file. Sony Chat Support gave me this link: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-download...id=1925&os_id=7 and it has MSFWUPGR_NW-E40X_200C.UPG which upgraded my NW-E407. However, the verison I was using was MSFWUPGR_NW-E40X_201C.UPG which didn't work. I dont understand the differences between the two however 200C.UPG worked.

I'm downloading the right firmware (I guess). I downloaded the firmware from the above link (NW-E40X_V2_0C.exe) and on the back of the player it says that the model is NW-E407. Serial number starts with 50#####.. Oh, and I purchased the player from a shop in London. The files extracted are: FWUpdater.exe FWUpdaterCom.dll FWUpdaterRes.dll MSFWUPGR_NW-E40X_201C.UPG NW-E40X_V2_0.ini One question, do you HAVE to use the original sony USB cable? The cable I have works fine with the MP3 manager.

Hi, I've downloaded the US, European and Jap versions of the firmwares but I just cant seem to apply the latest firmware to my nw-e407. 1. I click on fwupdater.exe 2. Sony Network Walkman Software Update tool (1/3) box appears saying "connect the device etc etc...". I click OK. 3. Then I constantly get the message: "The application cannot run because the system information cannot be found.". So I have to click OK. I can use the mp3 manager v2 and put mp3's onto the stick fine, and it plays everything i put into it but I just cant muster this firmware. Any suggestions anyone? Cheers, Simon
