  1. Just checking but did you register for Connect, or did you register your Walkman? I registered for Connect and wondered also where my free album was - but you must also separately register the hardware with the code included in the box it came in. Apologies if this is what you have done.
  2. Just amused myself with the same situation. EMail received, clicked link. Error. You couldn't make it up.

    Using Connect Store

Are people using the Connect Store to buy their music, or other preffered services? What are peoples experiences of the Connect store? Here are my thoughts- The layout is nice but my first impression was that the prices for individual tracks are more expensive than other services. My next impression was that the damn thing was frozen, so as I tried to scroll across to see the whole store (my third gripe) nothing happened. The links didn't highlight and the buttons didn't work. 20secs later and it was off and running. For some reason the pane that contains the store is too big, so I scroll across to get to the edge of the pane. The alternative is to reduce the left pane - the Folders and Playlist pane. I noted later that upon restarting Connect, it hasn't remembered these positions. The News has not really ben updated since I first looked about a month ago. So, I still have to read some fluff about B. Spears and partner... So - what to buy... Well, I like to Browse. So I look for a way to find what new soundtracks are out, as that is my particular want. Nothing in the top genres section, no classical either. Ok. Browse music. Cool - choose soundtracks. It then lists every single artist in that genre. Not cool. No album covers, no suggestions, no top sellers. Nothing. This is not a great browsing experience.... Back to main page. Frozen again. Wait for it to come to life. Surely it can only get better.
  4. Yes, it looks like I jave a similar problem - I had already registered my A1000 so when I try to enter the 16digit code, it just says the code has already been used.
  5. Has anyone managed to do this? On the Sony UK website - http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowArticle.act...&site=odw_en_GB they are saying that you can get a free album if you register your walkman - but it doesn't seem to make much sense. It talks about registering your walkman, but then when it explains how to do it, it looks like it is talking about registering with Connect. Whichever - I did register with Connect, but the email I got back had no code or reference or mention of the free album....
  6. 1. I didn't want an iPod because everyone has one. 2. I really liked the look of the new Sony (I got the silver A1000), and that is my most honest, main reason. 3. The longer battery life. 4. I had an ipod mini for a while but whilst I liked a lot of things about it, I didn't get on that well with the click-wheel - things like volume control, having to go through the whole library etc. 5. Greater file support. 6. I liked the intelligent shuffle features... To my ear, the sony sounds better than an ipod, especially when I use my own custom eq. This is just my own personal taste. The software was very bad, but the new updates have made it a lot better and they look like they will keep pumping them out - which suggests a level of support and commitment. I have already experienced this with my PSP. Regular updates that are genuinely worth having. That's it!
  7. I'm using Firefox too and Connect works no differently to when I have IE set as default. That is to say, that the player operates the same - however, despite the update, I still find with both browsers that the built-in Connect store is sluggish. If I use the scroll bars I have to wait several seconds before the window moves and the links become active again etc.
  8. UPDATE CONNECT WITHOUT LOSING LIBRARY INFO I could not get mine to Auto-Update as above, but I uninstalled the Connect Player, then ALSO uninstalled the Auto Update and Language Pack. I removed the registry keys too (may or may not be neccessary) I reinstalled from the original disc and it updated the player during the install process. Once installed I clicked on the CP icon and it gave me an error message stating that as something had changed with my system it needed to use a restore tool. It then closed and another window (restore tool) opened. Few seconds later and I was... well, restored. Opened CP and the splash screen took a bit longer (albeit with nice pulsing loading bar). Upshot is, the update has worked and my library and playlists are intact. I hope this is of use to some people!
  9. I think you might find that is just the 'Artist Link' function. My A1000 has a coolish blue light but when you press the Artist Link button, the buttons glow orange. Looks pretty....
  10. Just a quick note on the tinyhttp.exe process - I have found that minimising the CP or running another programme simultaneously actually reduces the resources this process uses. On my setup (AMD Athlon 2600+ and 1.25gb RAM) the process takes up about 120mb of ram, but that usually halves if I open a browser or other app. This seems to make the player work a little quicker... Weird. I have found the player workable, but frustrating. To those who are considering buying an A-series though I have to say I love it. And I hope this software won't put you off too much...
  11. Yeah, fair enough. I guess the question is will they bring out lots of little updates or risk waiting longer for one big patch. Surely sooner or later it's going to become common knowledge this software just doesn't work as it should...
  12. Apologies if I'm stating the obvious - but if it creates several versions of the 'same' album, is it not just the case that the data tags are slightly different on some of the tracks? For example I had the Soundtrack to 'Road to Perdition', but noticed that 1 track on the album was labelled 'Road to Perdition', 1 'Road To Perdition and 1 'Road to Perdition OSD'. This made three separate albums - but was quick to fix...
  13. If I understand you correctly, you just have to edit the tags in connect - then the next time you sync your A1000 with connect it will update automatically.
  14. Hi there. I bought the Nw A1000 (loving it). The Connect software is basically full of bugs, as I'm sure you are now aware. I did not have SS before, so I'm starting new with CONNECT - but just trying to rip my CD's and edit properties etc. have caused CONNECT to hang on me many times. I have noticed that the demands on the CPU fluctuate wildly, but are usually very high. A few times it has grinded to a halt with 100% usage. And I have a pretty quick PC I use for video editing no problems. Also as mentioned elsewhere the process tinyhttp.exe uses a lot of memory. Although as soon as you minimise the programme it reduces greatly to a more manageable amount. Scrolling through the list of songs is sluggish and prone to jumping back down the list. All in all, I think since I don't have SS, it is nothing to do with that or importing files from it. It is just a poor bit of software. Could be good in the future tho. Here's hoping...
