    European volume limit

Thanks for the tip But on the french model, changing DEST & Sp set values won't affect output volume (still capped). Besides, in the service manual, it is mentionned that resistor values are different (higher value, e.g. R107 or R207) for the model available in France (CEW model). It would mean that walkmen (in France, of course) is hard-capped
  2. I would sell my old NW-A808 and get the NW-A809 if it would exist (no support for Atrac is also a pain for me). A hardware-upgrade from a third party company is (technically) impossible, maybe in a dream (in this case, I won't pay more than $100 for this) .

to #2: It should not be a problem to display latin characters (except maybe accents).

I tested with my NW-a808 in RMAA a few months ago, but results might be inaccurate/irrelevant (inappropriate audio setup, no dummy load, noise on line-in input (-76dB) ). Got a slight bump over 0dB (+1.2dB@ 70Hz ) on low frequencies, and a progressive falloff after 5KHz. Samples are converted into Atrac 3+ @ 352kbps, this player cannot play wav files. Freq. response dB : +1.11 ; -2.12 Noise level dBA : -72.4 Dyn. range dBA: 72.2 THD: 0.08% Stereo crosstalk dB: -91 Freq. response swept sine dB: +3.5 ; -1.2
  5. v . 1.03 is available on the same address http://www.sony.jp/support/walkman/download/nw-a805_fw.html Fixed a small issue : small sound cut/skip at 5-6 seconds that occurs after playing an audio track, as described in this thread: http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3956
  6. Hi , There is a tip which enables UMS /MSC with Nwz-a81* (61x) support on Windows XP/(Vista). ° Open the Device Manager (Right click on 'My Computer' Icon > Properties > Hardware Tab (XP Systems) ) ° Locate The walkman drive (generally in 'Disc Drive ' Portable Devices List) in the device list ° Right-click on it, select 'Update Driver...' ° A driver wizard window will appear : ° On the 'connecting to Windows Update' prompt, Select 'no, not this time' , then click Next ° Choose "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", then click Next ° Verify that "Show compatible hardware" is checked ° In the list, 2 drivers will be available, "MTP Device" and "USB Mass Storage Device", select this last one to use UMS with Windows XP (vista). (To revert back to mtp mode, just repeat previous steps, and select MTP Device here.) ° On the next screen, press finish, it is done. The player will be recognized as a Removable Drive (msc). On Linux systems, this player will automatically switch to UMS/ MSC mode.
  7. Hello In the case of searching 500 songs with Japanese/CJK Tags on the iPod (or other players without Kana-search), considering create some Playlists to make search more easy might be the best solution. Or put tags in Romaji ( horrible & time waste ...). But it's still better to have the CJK tags displayed with a wrong order (Unicode) than having '??????' I use Japanese version of SonicStage, and the kanji search is very useful (about 200 tracks in Japanese) .I wonder if Chinese /Hangul search are enabled if you install CN/TW or Korean version of SonicStage. But in some experimentation, I encountered some 'glitches' with CJK: -Hangul with square brackets in the tag causes '???' displaying in the player. Removing brackets will make display Korean characters correctly. On all cases, Japanese SonicStage will display ???? as Hangul characters, but it would not affect tags on the player. All tags were added with Winamp/foobar (Unicode support). -In some cases, Japanese tags are not arranged properly. For example, I find 春までなんぼ in etc.
