  1. I just took it back and got them to replace all the innards - unfortunately I couldn't get a refund - but as stated it is under guarentee so it's all well and good now
  2. Hi! My names Tetsugaku-San, you may remember me from such threads as "Bloody Sony swines" and "I'm gonna go to Japan to hit an executive" Regardless of my prvious ire - I have a as new NW-A3000 for sale. Rather than go over too much of the details again here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 I'll send it almost anywhere, I'll only take PayPal, and there is a buy it now as well as an auction. If you have ANY quaestions, please ask them through PayPal as I can't check everywhere. Thx. Quote from the auction: "Hi, this auction is for an as new Sony NW-A3000 20GB MP3 (Black) player. I bought this player at the beginning of December when I was traveling up to London, then I managed to change my job a month later so I no longer need something with such a high capacity (My phone is ok for ten minutes ) Sorry about the quality of some of these pictures, where possible you can click them for a larger version. The Player is really in as new condition, there is some minor wear and tear on the outside however the screen is in great condition (Sony made this player very sturdily). It's complete and boxed (as pictured), most importantly I am including the original bill of sale so it's under guarantee at any authorised Sony Repair centre (Nip into a Sony Centre, or send it to them in the post should you need to). Oh, Also this player has already had the Vollume adjustment applied to it, so it goes to a very good vollume, and also the latest firmware applied to it, ready to roll."
  3. The UK has the Sales of Goods act which covers you under this situation. Details are here: http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htm The key point is wether you returning it now would be within 'reasnoble time' of the purchase, as it is obvious that the NW-A3000 (wether by hardware or software) is not "fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale)" I would try to return mine but as I dropped it they may not be so kind to me . .
  4. I'm selling mine myself - I would advise Creative Vision:M over the Apple however . . . If Comet won't take it back, and after 30 days they prolly won't (even though you have the right to, arguing the point will take too long) I'd go for eaby. I am
  5. Sadly I don't have sufficent funds to take a knock this large, the player itself is under guarentee, I'll sell it with the documentation, meaning it can be taken back to Sony should anything go wrong with it, and after it's returned byt he engineers it should be good as new. I will take photos of the player, inc the scratches and drop damage so people will be buying it with all the knowledge they need to make the decision. If Sony would just admit the thing is crap and give me my money back I'd be happier - sadly they won't :'(
  6. er cos I don't want to loose two hundred notes? it'l sell for about £125 on ebay, I'll still be £75 down.
  7. Right it's funny how you opinions can change on something after a while isn't it?For example I used to think Star Wars was great until I watched all of the prequels and felt betrayed, I feel Sony has done the same to me with my NW-A3000. Please read the review part one Anyway - ignore everything I said about the player. Well not all of it. The player still rules on one thing - sound quality - honestly the thing does sound fantastic. What it does fall down on is this: Software (transfering files), controls (the menus make no sense), functonality (you can't make a playlist on the fly), build quality (the thing breaks VERY easily) I've had the player for ten weeks and it's currently in for repair under warranty. This is what has finally broken me and I'm going to sell it on ebay as soon as it comes back. I dropped the player from my train seat, 50cm onto carpet, and the controls stopped working. Can youbelieve that? I am firmly of the opinion if ssomething is sold as 'mobile' it should BE 'mobile' not so delicate that you have to put it in a case, in a bag, wrapped in bubble wrap inside another bag to keep it safe. Piece of crap. My last Creative MP3 player I dropped onto concrete a few dozen times and that survived for 3 years! this lasted 10 weeks!! The other horrendous problem is the software. It just doens't work. I don't mean 'a bit crap' I mean really just does not do what you want it to do. For example I wanted to make a playlist for walking and going to the gym, so some nice rock tunes and happy up beat stuff. I managed to get 250 songs in the list but it took me about two hours to make! TWO HOURS!!! Just not good enough I'm afraid, not good enough at all. DO NOT buy this player. under ANY circumstances (unless you want mine off ebay )
  8. Both the X5 and the Creative have a built in FM radio as well, + a Mic, and ability to record from the radio. I believe the Creative has a better screen than either the iPod or the X5 however (defo the iPod) at 265,000 colours as opposed to 65,000.
  9. I never used SS but trying V3.3 is certainly going to be your first port of call. I think it's only wee - about 4 mb so thats what, 15 minutes?
  10. What happened to yours sh33p? was it a warranty repair?
  11. I note how you still haven't produced these mystical figures that you profess to have access to proving that Apple is in fact the largest company on Earth. Rather than of course a piss pot little one who is only still going because they thought up a shiny white MP3 player.
  12. Let me get this straight - you have the figures and you still can't see how much larger Sony is than Apple? It's true Sony have been having a tough time and just took on a new MD to re organise the place in Japan, but they are hardly on their last legs. These people make Music, games, movies, Playstations (%70 market share in home consoles BTW), TVs, Walkmans, DVD players, Stereos - you name it they make it. PS3 will no doubt do well even if they loose some percentage to Microsoft - however with the inlcusion of the bluray tech I'm more inclined to side with an increase in market share.
  13. It's got a 2.5 inch HD in it, practically sounds like an aircraft taking off nowadays!! (it used to be quieter) the main reason for replacement is the battery life and ocasionally unresponsive vollume down button (sometimes it makes a track skip or fastforward, off eh). thing is, they make ruggedised hard drives for laptops, and other mobile devices, there is no reason anymore for them to break. The ones you get in your desktop aren't the same, they don't have internal rubberised structures, accelerometres or shock protection. But yes - Flash would still be better, I can't deal with that limited number of tracks however - I use the thing way too much every day and I get repeats of stuff. Nevermind, I'm sure this is the last generation of players before flash takes over on 20Gb models anyway. All I need is for the new one to last until 2007.
  14. Behave, Sony sold more Playstations last year than Apple sold anything. Looking for market figures now - bloody hard to find any grr.
  15. Ah but can I drop it? (seriously) it's apparent I need something resembling a tiger tank Is the folder browsing seriously not a problem? I'm so used to just dropping stuff straight into the player and letting the player do the organising on the ID tags. How do you play a particular album in order?
  16. The HD on the Sony did work fine yes - when I pressed the vollume etc it did start up and go on it's merry way - I just couldn;t control it! I just use my player a hell of a lot and I don't have the patience ofr the motivation to treat it like a precious egg. the point I am trying to make is that *ANY* mobile device should be capable of being dropped - lot's. If it's not then it hasn't been designed properly. Mobile phones - peeps drop em all the time and they still work. Remote controls, not mobile but constantly being picked up and dropped - they last forever. PDAs, Ipaqs etc, drop em all you like, they still work. The crux, I wouldn't expect my (Sony) telly to work if I dropped it a metre, but if I had a Mobile battery telly, I *would* expect that to work if dropped.
  17. Well I can see your point of view but I've had *SO* many portable devices and dropped every single one of them tens of times, and never had a problem. I had a Sony Ericsson P900 Smart Phone, dropped it dozens of times when drunk and sat on it lots - never bust - sold on ebay for £150 as well The Creative, it is held together with tape but after 3 years and an estimated 7,500 hours use - still works. A Sony SPORTS walkman (the orrible yellow ones) lasted two years when I was at school and probably treated it worse than any of my other stuff, still have it, still works (dunno *where* it is to be fair) I'm just saying that these things should be built like tanks - if they aren't - they don't deserve the moniker 'mobile'.
  18. Sony is worth about 100 times that of Apple mate, sorry to disapoint Oh to the other poster - there is no controvercy - MP3s do work with the EQ. Wanna swop my NW-A3000 for your iPod ?
  19. 1. Battery life is very good, I used it for 320K MP3s all the time and it lasted ages. 2. No you can't. Not properly anyway the same way that you can with a creative for example. The silly book mark thing is crap cos really you might be listening to user created playlist one (for example) and want to add 3 tracks to it. You can't. 3. This thing might as well be made from egg shells. The back is metal (albeit v thin) the front is plastic that it surprisingly hard to scratch. I've dropped mine twice onto concrete, from about ametre, buttons started playing up. The 3rd time I dropped it 50cm onto carpet and they packed up completely. It's in for repair under warranty now. As a comparison, I had a creative zen for 3 years, I droped it dozens of times and it never broke. Didn't have an accelerometre either . . . .
  20. And that's the most important thing to us all ( I was going to go for an iAudio x5L but discovered you can't browse by artist / album or genre, ah well, Creative it is) (Oh and if anyone wants my Player - make me an offer by PM )
  21. Maybe if Sony bought Apple, which has been rumoured for years, we'd be fine
  22. Just to let you know I put my player in for repair after all the buttons except artist link and vollume stopped working completely takes up to 21 days apparently so I'll just have to see if the bugger works after that. When it come back it's going on ebay however and I'm going to get this creative player. Metal case, FM Radio, and a friend has just got one and says they are great. In the mean time I'm back to my 3 year old creative that is still being kept together with Gaffer Tape ( ha ha ) the sound quality isn't as good but it can take being dropped - just like any mobile device should be able to do. Bah.
  23. Ah if we could only take the good bits of the ipod (usability) and the good bits of the sony (sound quality we'd have agreat machine . .
  24. I'd agree if it wasn't for the intermittant nature of the problem, IE playing a song sometimes it locks, not playing, it locks up less, sometimes it's play, sometimes it's back, sometimes it's just down on the directions, sometimes everything but vollume. Grrr.
