The 80 GB is compatible with ~80% of PS2 titles (I have a euro 60gb) and that figure rises with each update, and all PS1 titles work flawlessly. The 40 GB will get compatability when they work out software emulation of the GS (the Ps2's grapahics chp), keep in mind this has already been done with the PS2's CPU (the emotion engine) on the 80GB and Sony employ ~100 people to work on emulation. Mark my words, this time next year the PS2 will be fully software emulated. If the PSP can play PS1 games through software, the PS3 can do the PS2.

As good as that all sounds, is it true or are you just speculating (cool ideas though!)

According to that site the announcement will be made in 2 weeks. From the teaser it loks very similiar to NW-A1000 just more rectangular (as described). Interesting times ahead!

yay lots of flash! 8GB is the minimum to expect, maybe even 10-16GB is possible? Anything regarding DRM?

Can't wait, so by soon in the other thread, ou meant very soon. @ Ascariss: you have been constructively critical of the Walkmans in the past, do the new ones alleviate some of your earlier grievances ( you dont have to give specifics, a reassurance will do!)?

Actually 4GB sticks can be had for less than $100. 8GB will be less than double so $160 is my guess within a few weeks of release. http://www.pricerunner.com/computing/stora...mp;ref=redirect

Lol, these rumours are entirely based off one man at opa-ages who absolutely despises Sony and Playstation, ignore them. There will be no downgrades in clock speed, as developers already have the Cell at 3.2GHz, this article has already been discredited by developers and is FUD spread by Dradmeat, Red Cloak and other Microsoft stooges.

Why do you say this, is there some hidden functionality to be unlocked by a firmware upgrade? Or am I being too subtle and you are just referring to a larger HDD?
-
Why not? Just add a colour OLED screen instead of the monochrome one (plus associated electronics) and you have got yourself a video walkman. Where is the issue in terms of casing design?

If you look at the features of the A-series, I believe that Sony were caught with their pants down, no new product for XMas 2005 because they could not get software/hardware ready for this time period (evidence: the A-series contains a 4800 GO nvida gpu, that supports 30fps video, a colour screen and 3MP camera - like the one in the Sony-Ericsson W900i cam-phone) and these half-assed players are an interim design until the video walkman shows up. They might not even get launched in the US. I have full faith that the new wma supporting Sony will get somewhere close enough to right with the video walkman for it to get to at least 2nd place with the Walkman line.

It is a pretty educated guess, wouldn't you think? What about colour screen/video, any info on that front?

With the news that Samsung will be supplying 8GB flash memory to Sony (probably for a new Walkman, the real competitor for the Nano), does anyone know/think that this new flash player will have colour OLED screen/ 30fps video support (using the nVidia GoForce 4800 from the Sony-Ericsson W900i?)? Also any chance of 40/60GB HDD Walkman's? With the quality of batteries of the Walkman's you would think that Sony could come up with a system that minimised reduction in battery life caused but the colour screen, so there would be no compromise. If so I might hold off on the NW-A3000 and wait for one of the new Walkmans. What is the usual time between announcement and launch of a new Walkman? Sorry if the questions seem a little random, but I could not create a new topic.
