Are Sony completely mad They come up with a supposedly all singing all dancing format that they don't support half the time ? pillocks

Does anybody know if the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones (W800 ideally) support ATRAC files or only MP3 files ? Was thinking of getting one, but as I ahve a NW-A1000 all my files are ATRAC ! Thanks

I think you've mistaken the firmware update for a Connect update Ian
-
I am running teh bog standard 1.0 Connect programme as provided with my NW-A1000 and its stable and I am generally happy with it. My only gripe is that it does not recognise all CD's, especially enhanced CD's and i cannot rip them. I understand that the new version 2.01 of Connect has improved this, and am thinking about upgrading. BUT I don't want to risk the stability of the current programme as I still have 50 or so CD's to rip before I go travelling in 3 weeks. Is the new version of Connect ok, or shall i just grin adn bear it. Ta

I have been having the same problems. Connect does not always recognise my CD's as containing music and just labels them as Data and I cannot get access to any of the files on the CD. This happens with normal CD's and also CD's with enhanced features (videous etc.) I have had this with 2 enhanced CD's and about 3 or 4 normal CDs. It also seems rather tempremental, as if I keep reloading the CD, eventually it might recoginse it. So far thats about my only gripe - otherwise everything seems ok

Cheers for the info guys I started ripping my CD's using SonicStage 3.3 last night at 128 whatsits and things chugged along quite merrily without any hiccups. So far SonicStage has been excellent, but I guess I won't find out how good it is transfering files until Xmas day ! It was ripping a CD in about 7 - 10 minutes which i cannot complain with and gave me a chance to go and get another beer and apease the wife !

It works !! Thanks for the tip I am off to rip rip rip

Ah my head is spinning ! I thought that was rather curious advice ! So its ATRAC all the way at @ 128 whatsits Roughly how many tracks will i get on a 6GB drive then ??
-
I You have all your music in cd then its not advisable o convert it into Atrac(tough it is better & more battery efficient .. But if you really want to have decent quality then Atrac128kpbs or 132kpbs will be a good bet.. ←

HAve just tried to install SonicStage 3.3 on my laptop and it installs ok, but then when i try to run it i get the following error SonicStage (00000908-508) Cannot locate needed files related to Window Media Format. Exiting SonicStage. (Error code: 00004e2) Does anyone have any ideas what the hell this means ??

Shocking I know, but I currently only have an old laptop, with an AMD chip, 20 Gb and 256 RAM and no internet connection (i am writing this at work) BUT I am getting a Sony AW1000 for christmas and a new Super PC is going to follow in the new year, along with broadband, my acceptance of the 21st century and the throwing out of my oil lamps Now I am going to use either Connect or Sonicstage to rip my CD's into ATRAC format and just want to check that I can do all of this without an internet connection and with my limited capacity laptop Also I am in a dilema about what ATRAC compression rate to use. Obviously I want a good compression rate to get lots of tracks on my soon to be beloved NWA1000, but want a reasonable quality. I will be using a radio transmitter for a 6 week travel jaunt and in the car, but will also be purchasing one of the flashy Sony docking stations/speaker setup things. Any advice on a good balance ?
