  1. You don't remember "Rising Sun" the best of their 3 hits? There's a compilation CD, "the best of" with all bar 2 tracks from their 2 big Polydor albums of 1973/4, "One and One is one" and "Thru a five". Go on, you know you want it! Ian
  2. A thought occured: I have a 5Gb A1000 and at 128 kbps I "should get" 1500 song, but I get about 1410. Why I wondered? Then I realised: I listen to a lot of PROGRESSIVE ROCK! Some of this stuff is 10minutes plus! OK, fair enough. My player includes: The Moody Blues + Solo stuff Steve Hackett Early Genesis (with Steve Hackett!) XTC/Dukes of Stratosphear Cock Robin/Peter Kingsbery Fish Al Stewart Barclay James Harvest David Gray Jem Helen Watson Hue & Cry James Kate Bush Keane Korgis Queen Nazareth Nanci Griffith Medicine Head Kula Shaker And the list goes on, but I see you are glazing over. Ian
  3. I've just reported the same problem on the HDD section. Still isn't working, it's the SS 4.0 full installer on this forum that is faulty, not a download from the Sony site. Ian
  4. I reprorted this the other day via the "report fault" link on the More Info page, but no-one sems to be monitoring the reports. When you click on "I agree" you get this: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /temp/1/SS40_MDCF.exe on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/1.3.41 Server at www.pepperonistavern.com Port 80 I'd like the full installer in case Sony stop having the SonicStage download available, then if I have a hard disc crash on the PC (I've been there!) I can still get the software back on and use Atrac rather than MP3. Ian
  5. Hi folks, just joined the group, having inherited the A1000 I bought my daughter about 3 Christmas's ago, (She now has a Sony Ericsson phone/camera/MP3 player/tea machine - well, one day!). It's not only ergonomically fantastic, cute as hell and built like a tank (unlike most iPod's) but the sound is excellent. I just voted, I'm sticking with Atrac, I use 128 kb/s to rip and transfer (thus avoiding the extended transfer times if you use different rates) as I find 128 almost indistinguishable from CD. I use the line out into my amp, and back to back with my Philips CD104 CD player (23 years old and still going strong) it's hard to tell them apart, and the differences could be down to line out amps and even leads. I find less than 128 to be distractingly poor, but having said that, I find most MP3 files to be inferior and by 128 it's too awful to listen to. So, Atrac, I will be loyal to you. I cant' quite fit all my CD's on, but as they're all ripped, I can delete and add to the device very quickly, so it's not really a problem. The A1200 would likely solve my "space" problem, but I can live with it. The A3000 is just a tad too big to have the "cute/wow" factor.
