Thanks guys! Your opinions are very useful as I have finally understood that the sound is different (pity I can't compare them head to head). I think HD5 has had softer sound than A3000. It's hard to find an HD5 these days to copmare...why did I sell mine?!

Hi guys! What do you think about this matter? I have had HD5 - it sounded great. Now I've got A3000 - sound is great but something is different. I can't get the idea what exactly... And looks like lower bitrate makes really bad sound in A3000 comparing to HD5 Thanks

NW-A3000 is the best as it has 20gigs of space and not much price difference with A1000. The sound output is GREATEST, comparing to podI...even nw-hd5 did not make that great for me. Right choice and welcome to SONY-heaven !!!

Hi guys! What is ATRAC AD, written on the back of my HD5? Does it mean that it is capable of holding the ADvanced lossless standard compression files? Sony claims these lossless have 80-20% compression of the original Audio-CD tracks without any loss of information. I've tried to convert CD-Tracks to Lossless format, but HD5 only took Atrac64Plus, but the quality of that Atrac64Plus is just great! A lot better than usual Atrac64Plus compression. Pretty strange...

This noise is not that bad and there is nothing to do with the file (song). But it is lot worse in other competitor's hdd stuff. Don't tell me that all Sony products have it. I am not sure about latest MD's, but MZNHF800 did not have it when I've had it.

I did have one BRAND NEW RCA LYRA 2780 a week ago and the sound output is VERY BAD. There is a lot louder "Shhhhh" and many other noises coming from the sound. Their DAC is lacking quality. All IMHO. Thanks!

I did not open my HD5 yet, but it's not going to be a problem I suppose...It's not sealed, so will do it easily. Where did you get your MK6006GAH, Ishiyoshi?

Is the sound output similar to your stolen HD5?

Just wanted to mark that sound output on our SONY HD's is GREAT! I have recently listened to the latest IPOD and have been really disappointed! Why do they take this money for their products? They have made hundreds of millions on ipods and can't improve it?!!! I am not telling about the stuff like RCA or some other chinese brands as the sound output there is VERY bad! For those people who own them it's better to buy old cassette players as sound output is similar. The only my concern is that SONY's output has a very light "Shhhhhh" noise while playing, but it doesn't arise as you increase the volume.

So, the guy said 60GB HDD is priced $220. I am in doubt...Did not expect that price, but still think it's worth it. Opinions, guys!

Not sure about the cost yet, the guy promised to bring some of those HDD's. Will let you know asap guys.

Hi all. I am going to try to put 60GB HDD in my HD5 insteed of standard 20GB. I think no problems will accur. Will let you know about the results as soon, as will get my new HDD. Has someone done it?

Hi guys! I have bought my HD5 a week ago for $279 and very happy with it! A3000 looks like a soapbox comparing to HD5 and the style of HD5 is very attractive! Great product and Great sound!!! If you need one - let me know as they are still available here, in Florida.
