  1. Headphones wise I have the Sennheiser MX400's.
  2. Thanks for your speedy reply Stuge. Is the soud quailty detoriation noticable as in is it major? or only slight? I mean would it be worth transferring my MP3's to Atrac3Plus for the extra baterry life. If its only slight then there isnt a problem. Thanks, Matt
  3. They are all at various bit rates ranging from 192k all the way up to 320k, some being VBR and some being CBR. Are you sure it results in poorer sound quality? Does this not only apply when converting MP3 to MP3? Anyway that was a very fast reply thanks! Matt
  4. There are obvious benifits of using Atrac3Plus over MP3 on my NW-HD3 e.g. better battery life. I am planning on converting my MP3 collection that are at various bit rates into Atrac3Plus (256k). But I have a question before I convert them: Would converting my MP3's into Atrac3Plus result in poorer sound quailty?

Was he not trying to say that quality doesnt detoriate when converting to Atrac but does when converting MP3 to MP3?

    MP3 Encoding Help

Thanks for the reply pata2001 I never new that . What is the difference in quailty like between MP3 and Atrac? I said that I thought Atrac was worse but while listening to my MP3's today wasnt sure if they it "really" was better as I dont think they sounded any better than when I encoded with atrac, infact I think they may have sounded worse maybe it was just at the moment of time though, I dunno. If I am going to transfer to Atrac again would it be possible to recommend the "best" bit rate for both sound and sound? For example is Atrac file encoded in 256k alot better than 192kb? Would would you guys recommend? Thanks for everyones reply, Matt

    MP3 Encoding Help

Hmmm I did have everything at Atrac 192kb but I found that MP3 sounded better to me (tested on my brother aswell ), so I took everything off and but everything on in MP3, but everything was all differnt bit rates so this is the situation I am in now: I can either trasnfer everything in Artrac (Maybe go for a higher bit rate, any of you guys recommend a good one?) or Choose MP3 VBR 192kb, when you say 192kb do you mean start VBR at 192kb and finish 320kb? or 192kb to 192kb? wouldnt that just be constant? Sorry if this is a messy post, I am in a rush, thanks for your replys so far! Thanks, Matt

    MP3 Encoding Help

I wasnt really sure where to post this, but I thought this would be the most relevent section. This one is for all you audiophiles out there . Here is my scenario: I have a collection of MP3's from differnt sources, that all have differnt bit rates some constant and some variable. I want to transfer these MP3's onto my NW-HD3 but want them all at the same bit rate be that variable or constant. From what I have gathered variable bit rates seem to be the best option as they offer excellent sound quailty (better than constant) but also have good file sizes. Now I like my music to be good quality but I also dont my whole MP3 player being filled up too quickly either. I am just wondering what is the best bit rate to use to encode my MP3's into so they are all the same and are high quality? I was going to use 192kbps to 320kbps VBR, does this sound like a good option? and would it be please possible to tell me the average file size for a track encoded this way? Thanks alot, Matt

    NW-HD3 Battery Meter

First off I would like to thank the people that responded to my last post, it was a big help. I have another question to all you NW-HD3 users. Does your battery meter not accuartley display the amount of life left in the battery? For example hanging on the last (lowest)part of the battery bar for a long peroid of time after the device has only been used for say an hour. Or jumping from low to medium battery life randomly? I am not sure if this is a fault or this happens to all NW-HD3's. Anyway If anyone has expeirenced a similar situation, I would be interseted to hear. Thanks, Matt

    NW-HD3 Shaking

Hi there, I currently own a Sony NW-HD3, and I recently have noticed that I can feel the unit shake when I change track or browse through menu's etc, basiclly when the hard drive is accessed. I downloaded the NW-HD3 manual from the sony website and under "Troubleshooting" the manual says: The sound is heard from the inside of the player. The player shakes. When the built-in hard disk of the player moves, the sound of operation may be heard, and the vibration of the player occurs. This is not a malfunction. I was just wondering if this is common, or is an actual fault with the player, I am aware of what sony say but was wondering if anybody else with a NW-HD3 has experienced the same scenario. Thanks Matt
