As I can see from the updated version of the manual, NW-A and NWZ-A are identical. Although I don't think it would be possible, I'm waiting for a firmware update for NWZ, to see if I'll be able to put it on an NW.

After THIS happened, I thought it was working fine. Everything is working, but the buttons are shuffled ("Vol -" reacts as "Play/Pause", "Back" goes down, "Option" goes up, etc...). Maybe the water made it, maybe me, while disassembling the player to dry it, I pushed somewhere harder than I should have. I figured out how the buttons work, with only 2 wires going to the MAIN board, another that wakes the player on push of a button and another for GROUND. However, the schematic of the way the buttons are connected is missing in the service manual and I need it to find the source of this magic button shuffle. I would be very glad if someone can help me. Anyway I'll make some high resolution scans of the board to figure it out myself, but a schematic will be of great help. Thank you all. Keep your toys away from water!

It worked the second time I tried it on my player. Give it a try again.

Clear Bass gets really soft at it's maximum level so I keep it high, but not max and listening from 16 to 25 vol., produces great results.

You can see the code for service mode in the service manual I posted here yesterday for 800 series. I think it should be the same code. My player was not volume capped. I mean, I entered service mode and the setting to the volume limiting option was OFF by default. Hope I hepled.

Today I updated my NW-A805 to v.1.03. Came home from work to find out that my girlfriend washed her's along with some clothes in warm water with washing powder for some minutes until she noticed it was missing. It was soaked pretty well. I must admit it was hard to dissasemble it to dry it. But taking it back together was a real challenge. Nice piece of machinery. It works again, tough one. Whatever... so after all that, I found the service manual and wanted to share it with you. NW-A800 Series Service Manual It should be nice if someone moves it to the Download section. Have a nice day. Updated version with NWZ info by "A.A. Fussy" - http://stashbox.org/62685/NW-A805.zip

Good for me I'll not ne using any DRM for some more years. (I hope so!)

Maybe that's the reason, but I think it easyest thing to break, by reencoding the song, for instance.

The Radio fuction cannot interfere with any electronics in the plane, because it just receives radio waves, it doesn't transmit. The interference caused by the electronics inside the player is barely noticeable. I assume Sony just follows too strictly some regulations, that's all.

What makes you convert them to OMA? My personal opinion is that MP3 sounds much better than Atrac in most cases.

What's that paranoia about?

That really is a strange number to choose for maximum volume. Mine also gets 31 max. It's OK, with the E808s, provided with the player, but with my Kenwood KPM-410, it's quite quiet.

Sony NW-E407L Review and Taking apart device.

Compared to the pictures of yours, my E405/Black, looks like showing white text, although to me it looks more like, veeery light blue, almost white. -
I have no problems using SonicStage on my home pc and the one at work with my NW-E405.

My NW-E405 displays Cyrillic perfectly, which surprised me. So... just name some of your files in hebrew and give it a try, won't hurt.
