Charging the NW-S706 without the computer?
micks_address replied to micks_address's question in Audio
Thanks Angry She actually has an nwa1000 so will try that tonight, i will be using her player in the meantime but sure i can just charge that off the pc Thanks for your help Mick -
Hi Folks, My wife may have to stay in hospital for a few weeks prior to the arrival of our next baby, i want to give her my NS706 to use but the trouble is, i currently charge the player from the pc at home, she wont have access to a pc at the hospital for charging, so is there an adapter i can get for the ns706, so it will connect to a mains power lead? Cheers, Mick

yes the oled screen is cool, i can see it being on the next version of sony high capacity DAP.. ...

would be interested in knowing this also.. i have my black s706 in the clear case Clear Case | CKH-NWS700 Its much better than the leather case.. i wanted a case with the player when i bought it and the sony centre only had the leather ones.. they are fine but you have to take the player out to see the screen and the jog wheel used to rub against the leather making it hard to use.. i got the clear case yesterday and its much nicer.. i thought it would be a plastic silicone/rubbery material but its actually more like polycarbonate.. the player is fully protected and you can see the screen and access the jog wheel/buttons no problem. i have the neck strap on the way from ebay so will wear the player around my neck when that arrives.. i had a look at the speaker system you mention yesterday.. its 150 euro in the local sony centre.. the docking station on its own is 50 euro so the guy was recommending buying the speaker set as its much better value.. would like the docking station from my desk at work to keep the player charged

anyone else notice a slow down in the jacket search function once you load the player with a good few albums? i first had about 20 albums at 256 atrac and the jacket search was lovely, almost instantly would start playing track once you changed to a new cover art... with the extra albums @ 128 atrac there's quite a noticable delay which is a shame, as i really liked this function..

Hi There, The scrolling thround albums and songs via the text menu is grand, i really liked the album picture search as well, but since i've lowered my bit rate to 128 atrac and put more albums on, its not as quick and gets annoying waiting for the track to play once you change to a new album art... maybe i'll go back to 256 atrac... i think i prefer the jump in quality anyway.. otherwise this is a very nice player, the fm radio is quite good, solid reception on my train home once i'm near a window.. have to say its nice to have an fm radio... cheers, mick

just picked up an s706 today in black... currenty listening to the 3/4 tracks included with the player, as the fm receptions isnt great in the office.. have to say its wowing me with the sound.. i have had a hd5 and then used a psp for music listening... i sold the hd5 because i wanted a player with fm radio.. ended up buying a psp with 4gb card, found that a bit heavy for the commute so sold it on and bought the s706 today... have to say with the supplied phones it sounds very good.. i was using senheisser cx300's but i dont think i'll be switching back to them.. if the fm reception is usuable on the commute then i think i'll be very happy... can live with the 4gb capacity... as was used to that with the psp.. will give a more in depth opinion when i get some tracks loaded up tonight..

i have a game in mine all the time and it seems to remember where i was when i switch back on the psp.. for example if i'm watching a movie it stays in the menu structure.. doesnt launch the game automatically.. on firmware 2.8.. not sure if that makes a difference

Trading My NW-HD5H for a PSP; Am I Mad?
micks_address replied to micks_address's question in PlayStation
well guys, the deed is done..... i have bought a psp with a 4gb card.. and i'm now using it on my cummute to work,... early impressions are 1) Its a lot heavier than my hd5.. well thats an obvious one i guess.. it still fits into my jacket pocket so its not too big.. i have a logitech hard case for it and it does add a bit of wieght but it protects it well... i have converted a few movies from dvd to try out.. i'm using pspvideo 9 and am still fiddling with the settings... havent tried avc yet but thats my next stop... watching full screen 16 * 9 material is very good... watching 2 - 35 - 1 ratio with black bars top and bottom is a bit small... also the volume of the films is low but this can be remedied by boosting the volume in pspvideo 9 music,,, pleased enough with it actually... have started adding album art to sonic stage and its a nice touch.. wish you could see a bigger picture as the track is playing the supplied remote is handy also for volume/skipping tracks etc the sound quality of atrac 132 is fine.. my tracks are all 256 in sonicstage but to preserve space i've decided to go for 132 on the psp... quality is grand... so far i havent played any games but i've picked up wipeout pure today second so will give that a bash on the way home one thing on the train thats annoying.. if you are sitting in direct sunlight it can be very hard to see the screen... will have to pick shady seats right better go.. thanks for the advice guys.. .all in all pretty happy with my decision... the video conversion is slow but when i get on top of it should be good... cheers, mick -
Hi guys, i have a friend travelling to the US in a few weeks and i might get him to pick up a 4gb sony card. i think with the euro conversion i might be able to save a few quid, where's the best high street shops to look in? i think he;s going to new york and then maybe boston for a few days.. what price are the cards in the shops? is there a price for the 8gb card yet? cheers, mick

Trading My NW-HD5H for a PSP; Am I Mad?
micks_address replied to micks_address's question in PlayStation
Thanks guys, i read a report on cnet recently that rated the psp actually quite high in terms of audio quality, i think i've pretty much made my mind up at this stage. i', going to try and sell my hd5h and buy a psp with a 2gb card to start with... in a few months if i cant live with the psp for music i might by the next gen sony audio player which is bound to be around by then cheers, mick -
Hi folks, I'm in the process of trading my hd5h audio player for a psp. my reasons? 1) I will be able to watch my dvd's on the psp, by ripping them and copying them on to a memory stick 2) I can play the odd game 3) I can get a remote for the psp with a fm radio - ifm psp from griffin tech - i really would like a radio remote for my hd5! 4) Still listen to my atrac music files on the psp 5) i can use the psp on my wi fi network at home... The concerns i have are 1) Size, i know the psp is going to be bigger than my hd5 but hopefully not to big to put in a jacket inside pocket and listen with headphones to music/radio 3) My music collection, i have 20gb plus on the hd5h, the thing is i know i never listen to a lot of it, and would be content enough to transfer albums on and off memory sticks.. but does the psp integrate with sonicstage cp? will i be able to just connect up the psp with memory stick inserted and transfer on songs using sonicstage the way i would to my hd5? 4) whats the psp like for watching movies? how complicated is the process of converting dvd's to be able to store them and watch on the psp? Advice appreciated... cheers, mick

Finally got artist link working.,.. every time i tried to get additional cd info from within 'My Library' i got the no internet connection message even though when importing cd's sonic stage was connecting to gracenote fine and getting info that way. Solution was to upgrade my version of Internet explorer to version 7 which is in beta 3 at the moment. As soon as i did that - the next time i opened sonicstage and clicked on My Library it told me that i could get additional info and away it went and downloaded the artist link stuff... wierd but wondeful i guess to have it working at last!
