  1. I have a 3.2 Ghz Sony Vaio with 2.gb of memory onboard. I use it for modeling networks using vmware and have had anything upto 10 different OS machines running at one go without any speed issues. So a pissy little media interface should not be an issue... I have about 40gb of music. Connect Player used to just brick its self and go tits up when ever I tried to use it although SS 3.4 was OK. Its still had issues... All of my music is stored with the artist_album_track_name as the title I ripped all of it myself using audiograbber. My Ipod never had any issues understanding the names and categorising the tracks. With SonicStage I lose most of my music because the internal tags have not been set and as for gracenote If freeDB can find my track in less than a few seconds why does it take sooo long to get it wrong??? I also noticed that SS converted all my tracks on the player to OMG despite being set to LEAVE THEM ALONE So I wiped the player clean and started again (what a total mistake that was.... it took 30 minutes to download 10 albums and then used gracenote to add tag data... It got most of them wrong and I am now faced with a load of tracks that should be jamiroquai labled as mozart Yep Sonicstage sure is a great product.... And if a cheap ass mp3 player can sort out drag and drop what does it say for a £200 device that can't?
  2. Unless you have kept your ID tags in order on all your mp3s I would not touch _ANY_ sony product. The software just sucks. I had an Ipod mini and used to use a product called ephpod to transfere my music to it. it gave me a file system view and I just picked the songs I wanted and it transered them using the file_name... Simple and effective. Don't get me wrong The sony is far better for sound quality but you can't read the display in sun light and Sonicstage is a mess. Save your cash and go for something else
  3. Hi, Now the summer is finally starting to turn up, I have noticed that when I try and use either of my NW walkmans in sunlight, I can hardy see any of the writing on the screen anyone else have this problem? I love the Player but If I can't solve this I may have to go back to a sodding Ipod Best regards, Pete
  4. I have seen lighter plugs that have a USB connection on them that would allow you to plug your standard cable in and charge that way. However I have got completely peaved with having to buy new chargers every year. So I went out and bought a decent 12v converter that steps up to provide a standard 250 volts so you can just plug the normal wall plug into the car....

    Non DRM MP3's

The longer option is to use something like audacity to re-record the DRM locked file to an un touched MP3 works for me I also use it to convert DVD concerts to MP3 so I can listen to them in my car
  6. Why don't you just use some toothpaste to polish out the scratches?? (colgate works well! )
  7. It can be done but I think Sony would prefer you to buy a UMD copy of the film instead of ripping it to a memory stick...
  8. Odd.. I have Norton and it went on like a charm... (oops )
  9. I used my A3000 in the car for the first time today. I am very happy with it. the Lineout is very much better than the normal mode. Its gui is a bit slow to use in comparison with my old ipod mini. Although the mini had serious issues when charging it while it was in the lineout mode. I would suggest you choose a player then live with it for a week or two before you start trying to hack it to bits...
  10. My mistake the laptop was a p3 not a 386 It was still painfull though. Yes its still knocking around, although I have a 3.2g vaio desktop and a 3.0g toshiba as my current working machines... In the end the musicbrainz site left me with 2500 unidentified tracks (too much work by a longshot) when I ripped them first time round most of them resovled using freedb. Thanks for the tip on Tag and Rename I will give that a try over the weekend...
  11. How hard is it to type "volume limit NW A3000" into google and surf for a few sites ?? If people are too dumb or lazy to figure this out for themselves then the chap selling the info is helping them... So 99p for that is not too bad is it?
  12. Yep, 4 huge crates full of CDs it took me two weeks of ripping morning till night on a 386 laptop I am in _NO_ rush to repeat that little trick I am trying a sight called http.musicbrainz.org at the moment So far I only have 1200 unrecognised songs with 2800 pending and the rest identified... If this works then it will be a big chunk of work out the way
  13. Great what about the other 9999 tracks? I cant be te first person to switch from an Ipod and get bitten by this issue surely...
  14. Having just bought an NW A3000 after getting peaved with my ipod. I am surprised to find that Sonic Stage and Connect seem to miss many of my tracks, as they do not have any Id tag info (I ripped all my music using Audio grabber with categories set up in Artist/Album/track directories... this worked fine for Windows Media or Itunes So what tag information does sonic stage/ Connect need ?? What is the most simple method of providing it? Thanks
  15. Note CONNECT Player can only ensure proper operation for the following music files: Tracks imported from audio CDs or purchased from the music store via the Internet by using CONNECT Player. Tracks imported from audio CDs or purchased from the music store via the Internet by using SonicStage. Tracks imported from audio CDs by using Windows Media Player (only *.wma files that are not copy-protected by the Windows Media Rights Manager content management system). This was taken from the help screen for Connect Player... Looks like Sony would like us to re-rip every track we own
