  1. Hey Stuge (and all others) I had some luck with my HD1. I lifted the cover and due to the lack of tools on hand did not want to force the battery disconnect so I played around a bit and did the following. I tried turning the unit on and off about a zillion times but with no luck Then with the battery switch on but the unit in the off state I put it in the charging cradle. While still in the cradle I pushed the up arrow to load the device. Whilst the unit was loading ( The walkman logo appearing) I egected the unit from the cradle. For the first time the unit did not crash (screen go blank) this looked promising. The unit however did not show any of my tracks, artists etc etc. Still out of the charge cradle I toggled the battery switch and bingo. My HD1 is a functional unit again. Cheers TJ9
  2. Stuge I hope I am not appearing to be that stupid to everyone ! Thanks for your reply but yes I have tried turning the unit off then on again. I think I will lift the cover disconnect / reconnect the battery a see what happens.
  3. Hey stuge. I dont have access to any of the menus on the device. Are you just suggesting to turn the device on and off again in your last comment? cheers
  4. Thanks Atrain I am travelling at the moment and dont have my database or USB lead with me. Do you know if the reset will format the drive? Its happened again. This time the error message is "system error number 20" I can turn the unit on and the walkman logo appearss but the device just turns itself off after the logo load. Any ideas ??????
  5. Hello again Stuge. No I was sitting quietly at my workstation with the NW-HD1 on the desk as i do all to often. Hey Stuge. It has just come good again after about an hour and half of turning it on and off. Nothing has changed like environment or treatment ???????? interesting. The device must have know it was in for some treatment from the STUGE See you next time on the post
  6. Hello Atracer,s I think my NW-HD1 is ready for the trash can but I will ask the question because you guys have answeres for all sorts of things. I was listening to the device and went to skip to the next track. A "database not found" error came up. Now when I turn it on the walkman logo comes up and then he screen goes completely blank. I can hear the drive spining but then it just stops. The mode, menu, volume and arrow keys do absoultley nothing. Any suggestion besides a fish-tank ornament ????? thanks all

    NW-HD1 firmware revisions

Arr but I do. My sonic library / backup has been sent to the other side of the world as I am off travelling for a while. If I load MP3fm and it screws the NW-HD1 database then I am screwed till i get home. Thats why I want to put MP3fm on along side my existing NW-HD1 library so I can add new CDs without my SS library. Cheers for the reply Mercury_in_fames
  9. Hello people. I previously posted a request regarding issues with running MP3fm on a NW-HD1. Thanks Stuge and MDX-400 for your input. my NW-HD1 has not had the firmwre upgrade but it has been suggested that some of the last off the production line may have had the new Firmaware put on them. As the packaging for the device is long gone can anyone help. It is currently running ver 1.050. I notice the service manuals posted on this site have a version 1.1. does anyone know if version 1.050 will play MP3s has anyone got any info on what version they had before and after upgrade. Thanks in advance Happy listening all
  10. Stuge I was unaware of the NW-HD1 firmware upgrade at the time of posting so I think you have answered question 2 for me. My device has not had the FW upgrade. I understand this upgrade is required for me to play MP3. I guess the upgrade puts on the firmware that wraps the mp3 in OMG /Atrac? to enable the NW-HD1 to play it As for SS V3.3 only playing on one machine i have prevoiusly done the following when I first purchased the device. Ran SS v1.2 on my girlfriends machine with her HD as the library source. Put albums onto my NW-HD1 and created a backup (2 albums) to a disc. I then ran SSv 3.3 on my work device and imported the backup (after a web authenification) and have been using my work device ever since. However I think I am stuck as my back-up was shipped overseas as well. the only way I will be able to add music to my NW-HD1 for traveling is to 1) get FW upgrade 2) the NW-HD1 allows transfers from to seperate SS library's I have ranted on here but is this the elobaration you were after ?
  11. hey Stuge no its out of the box does the firmware upgrade wipe the music file structure ???
  12. Hello fellow forum users Can anyone give advise on the following questions? I purchased a NW-HD1 several months ago and am happy with the device.(after i found the volume controll hack) I loaded all my CDs onto the device through SS v3.3. The application was run on an XP work laptop. However I chose a removable disk for the library storage. Now however i am moving back to my homeland and have to return the work laptop and have shipped the removable disk home. I have bought a few new CDs I want to put them on my NW-HD1 so I can listen to them whilst travelling for a couple of months. I see my options as the follwing. CAN I 1)load SS V3.3 onto my girlfriends XP laptop and choose her local drive as the library. (this device go's home with us) Then transfer the new tracks to the NW-HD1 not effecting the existing NW-HD1 database / library. If this is acheivable can the two library's (girlfriends HD and my removable HD) by converged once i get home? 2)Install MP3fm v2 onto my girlfriends machine and let it install itself on my NW-HD1 . (Can this be done without effecting the existing NW-HD1 database / library) then i just have to rip the CDs to MP3 and drop and drag from withinh MP3fm. If this is a bit understandable all I am trying to acheive is get more music onto my NW-HD1 without effecting its existing structure as my SS library is on the other side of the world. I would like to get my new 10 or so CDs onto this device but i dont want to wipe the existing 50 or so albums that are on there now. thanks in advance for any feedback you may have. PS I found a free application that will convert Atrac back to MP3s. I work just fine when i tryed it on two albums cant comment on the quality though. CHEERS ALL
