Is your optical cable messed up? Check the ends of it and make sure debris hasn't somehow gotten in the tips. An error saying can't connect...it says that on the md, i assume. I would think it'd say something like "No signal." What unit are you using?

wtf? English, please...but hey, I guess it's cool if you don't do the english thing. Just for Piotr's sake (and for the guy who posted this, if he can read english,) Piotr is having a killer time getting internet access where he just moved to. It may be a little while before he sees this post, whatever it is that is says.

MZ-N10 Battery.....is it possible to use a better?
Bazirker replied to mcampbel14's topic in Minidisc
Up above, I suggested doing some research on the subject before I had an MZ-N10. Now that I do, I am planning on doing some experiments concerning battery life and all once I get the time to do it. High school sucks so much... -
well, you could just go buy a double ended male stereo minijack recording cable and record using your computer's line out. This will get you an analog recording though. As to the PS2 recording...not to insult your intelligence or anything, but are you sure you're recording? If your md isn't set to sync record you have to manually start the recording. I don't have muvh experience with sharp units, so I don't quite know what to tell ya.

I downloaded that patch and tried to use it, but it said that I don't have the right version of the software that can be updated. I find this to be kind of strange considering that I have a vaio laptop that came with ss 1.5 installed on it. any ideas?
-
Interesting findings...but guess what, my brand spanking new MZ-N10 from Canada comes out of the box NOT doing toc edits between each song. It also came with a US voltage adaptor. I didn't have to knock it off the stand to get it to stop doing constant toc edits.

Yeah you aren't allowed to have anything on during take off/landing that isn't like a wristwatch or something. Realistically, there is no way in hell that a tiny md player running off one AA battery can do anything to emit any kind of signal that could cause any kind of adverse effects. (Lots o' any!) If you want, listen to your heart's delight during take off and landing...that is if you want the flight attendants to yell at you! They're gotten so mean recently...I was playing gameboy and I was trying to save and the lady got all mad at me and stuff cause I had it on like 15 seconds after they made the annoncement. Flying sucks.

It takes time, it involves using at least three different programs, it is harder on your comp's cpu because of all the encoding involved (original format to cda then to atrac3), and although simple burner is waaaaaay better than the other programs, it is still (at least on my comp) more buggy than the average program. The user interface isn't very flexible, you have to encode every single time, no SP mode, and so on. Marcnet, if you manage to create some sort of program that is non-sucky, you will seriously quickly become my favorite person, especially if you can do SP mode transfers and omg files without the checking in/out.
-
Me too. But there isn't one...yet...I'm anxiously awaiting some sort of program that can do that.
-
Sent. Thank you, come again.
-
one other way to do it, although it's a huge pain...convert files to wav then import the wav and optimze the file, then delete the wav.
-
don't go buy it again, that's silly. Since you already rightfully own it, you should be able to (guiltlessly) get on kazaa and download nero with a keygen.
-
agreed, atrac sounds better than almost all mp3's I've ever heard (although some mp3's come close if they are encoded using something like lame encoder.) I'm not very familiar with wma, but I still think atrac is better.
-
I think they would if the cd player normally outputs tracks inbetween songs. It doesn't matter than much to me anymore because I went out and bought a converter so I can use my coaxial output on my cd player for recording, but I would still like to know why it is such a bitch but only with non-compressed files.

MZ-N10 Battery.....is it possible to use a better?
Bazirker replied to mcampbel14's topic in Minidisc
sounds like an experiment is necessary. try running the internal battery all the way down and letting it sit for awhile and then see how much juice is in the battery. then try the same thing again, this time with the external battery attached. note that you need the same enviornment and time period. -
I think he is more worried about if he caused some kind of short circuit because the unit is not behaving how it is intended to behave with a netmd transfer. i dunno if I'd call it a hack... One thing to point out though. If you nare converting the songs while you transfer them, you don't lose any time through the toc edit thing; while the md edits after a song transfer, the comp starts encoding the nextsong. however, if you don't have to encode, then your transfer may be speeding up. is it possible that your netmd unit is still doing a toc edit after each song and just not displaying it?
-
to reconfirm what "me" said, the md player doesn't allow lp2 mono recordings while lp4 mono is impossible. while lp2 records in stereo, lp4 does not; it uses a different type of recording called joint-stereo. it takes the similarities between the left and right channels and rather than encoding them twice (once in each channel,) it just records them as one channel. In a way, it compresses the stereo imaging.
-
I bet the first stuff got overwritten... But, there is a chance that the md wrote the new stuff somewhere else on the disc, in which case it can be recovered with a bunch of toc tricks. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=230
-
whoa nelly. Can your 707 still playback discs? I think what was happening when it got "stuck" on a toc edit is it was actually defragmenting your minidisc. Or at least I had that happen to me before and my disc seemed like it had been defragmented...can your md still record from other sources? You might need to delete all the songs from the program (but not your hard drive) and then re-import/register them in the database. damn sony for making shitty programs.

MZ-N10 Battery.....is it possible to use a better?
Bazirker replied to mcampbel14's topic in Minidisc
The battery pack seems to recharge your internal battery? What indications do you have suggesting that? That seems very strange to me, because to my knowledge li-ion cells are usually higher voltaage than the 1.5 V AA batteries (1.2V if you are like me and use rechargables,) and for one battery to charge another it needs to be a higher voltage than the battery being charged. That'd be really cool though if you could use a AA to recharge the internal cell. -
Yup.
-
Yup that's right "me," it was originally just for news...but then we came, hahahaha! Ehhem...yeah. I like it though.
-
Well, I can't re-vote, but I guess I wouldn't mind a new board style.
-
Heh heh I got shot down...lol Yesh well I guess it would be a little silly...guess I'll check out that efnet thing, this is actually the only md page I participate in at all. I'm not even registered anywhere else (i.e. t-board.)

They already have. Look at the 17th item: http://www.minidisc.org/mdlpfaq.html#_q72 This might work for you as the dl: http://www.minidisc.org/atrac3.zip
