  1. Nope, the cradle is cosmetic. It's slightly easier to put th md unit on the cradle than plug in the unit, plus it holds the unit upright so you can see what's on the LCD. So yeah, the cradle really doesn't do anything other than make your md unit look cooler than having it just sitting out. If you were to lose it, you'd probably never miss it.
  2. The Wasteland, lol, sounds good to me. Perhaps it should have a title that makes its contents more apparent...like "Reader's Topics..." considering that it already exists.
  3. Finally! An answer! Check out the foot pedals on this page, towards the bottom: http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/service/p...loadManual.html Hope that helps you.
  4. Yeah, having regulars is good...Me, Dark, Mystyler, Bazirker (myself), Leland, etc. We all have different ideas on stuff. I usually can figure out the hardest way possible to accomplish a task, Mystyler knows how to do stuff without touching anything that has in any way been affected by Sony, and so on. These forums are such a better tech support center than anything Sony or Sharp or anyone would offer consumers. Now if someone could just figure out how to fix my damn 707...I'm actually about to send it to MOV1 so he can poke at it a little bit.
  5. I guess there aren't as many new topics and stuff because as the forums grow, most things can be found by simply reading other threads. For example, under the user tips and tricks forum, someone recently posted asking if there were any MZ-N707 hacks. Well, he must not have bothered to read at all, considering that he posted RIGHT NEXT TO the 4 pages worth of discussion on MZ-N707 hacks. There are only so many times you can tell someone how to get music from their MD to their computer or why OpenMG is a piece of crap. I think the "reader's topic" forum should be used more as a general discussion forum, not just MD topics that don't neatly fit into the other groups. What I mean is, why don't we use the reader's topic thing to be reader's topics, i.e. topics like "hey guys, I just recorded my band playing our best stuff, here's a link for the music, let me know what you think" or "Are Sony Vaio laptops user friendly?" While this is a minidisc forum, I don't see how taking a small portion of it and allowing members of the community to discuss aspects beyond MD. We've got people all over the world posting on these forums, perhaps the reader's forum could be seen as a more social forum while all the others are more on topic and business-like. Or, maybe I'm an idiot for suggesting that sort of thing, I'm new to this forum stuff, although I don't see what's wrong with that...like if someone has a problem with a social forum then they could simply not look at it...well, whatever.
  6. I almost never see MD players. It's frankly kinda sad. What's funny is that every time I go to Best Buy or some electronics store with MD players I end up talking someone into buying a NetMD unit over an MP3 player. Personally, I think the local electronics stores should give me a discount considering that all their employees are idiots that got hired because they know what an MP3 is. Sigh...surrounded by idiots, as always...
  7. ummm just read the MZ-N707 hacks topic...it has tons of stuff on it about the hack concerning what works and what doesn't. It's not like they're mulitple hacks or anything...
  8. I believe so, Sony was trying to hard to make the unit incredibly thin that they couldn't fit a normal stereo miniplug on the unit. I think that's stupid...but once again, Sony didn't ask us, did they?
  9. Hey slow down guys! TOC stuff? I think something is wrong with the actually MD unit. Sync record doesn't matter when recording in analog, that's only for digital. You should get a new track mark once ever 2 seconds of silence if you record from an analog source. If you have 200+ track marks just for a little piece of silence, then you have a problem with your unit.
  10. WHOA NOW a resistor and an led? OK sooooooo i get the point of the led, but why the resistor? Don't you need an external power source? I'd like to see that done. So you can still get automatic track marks and stuff if you convert coaxial to optical?
  11. Leland, I think you actually don't have to worry about current, do you? Cause V=I*R, I should be detirmed by the resistance of the circuitry in the recorder and the voltage of the adaptor, right? I'm not sure how that works, but I always thought that's how it went...
  12. Does anyone have experience using coaxial to optical converters? Is there any sound quality loss if you use a cheap one? I would think no, digital is digital, but I guess there's always a way...
  13. That's not quite how it works. What you do is look at the electrical needs of the MD unit and then buy an adaptor that can supply that voltage. Next, you buy the appropriate plug that fits into the MD unit. Now you don't really look for the serial number or whatever at radio shack...ask a guy there for a universal adaptor and just buy one that can supply the voltage. I THINK the plug you need is plug B, although I don't have an MZ-N10 and I dunno if the adaptor is the same, plus I bought mine a looooong time ago and my memory is sorta fuzzy. I got my adaptor for $12.99. The plug should be like $2 or something, if that much.
  14. ARGH Ok well I can't get this thing working. Anyone know a way to make it so sony technicians can't tell that I've been playing around in service mode trying to fix the thing?
  15. I don't think so...although I just read a thing in the new Popular Science about Sony making a portable cd player that can read DVD's (has a video ouput,) write cd's, read mp3 cd's, and such. So, I'm sure you can buy one somewhere although they really aren't being made anymore.
  16. LOL! That's really funny, the kid gave you a warranty. Pretty good considering how little he "charged" for the discs.
  17. I don't think anyone knows what NF means yet, but here's my guess. (If anything I say is wrong, please feel free to correct me, cause these are all observations that I haven't exactly gone back and double checked.) MZ-Rxx means, basically, first gen minidisc recorders. MZ-Rxxx means MDLP recorders. MZ-Nxxx means NetMD MDLP recorders. So, MZ-NFxxx or whatever likely adds a major function because it adds another letter to the name. MY GUESS would be atrac3plus, in which case I'll likely avoid NF recorders like the plague. I like my current atrac3, thank you very much. Lower bitrates usually means lower sound quality, and crap on that man. I dunno, if they can still record and read normal MDLP, I'd consider one, but otherwise, no damn way.
  18. Cheap MD's shouldn't damage the player, especially not the buttons. I would say one of two things is wrong with the unit; either something is wrong with the electrical aspects of the player, meaning service mode would be required to fix it, or the physical button somehow got messed up. If you're like me and don't mind taking apart an MD player, I'd recommend removing the front faceplate that cvovers the buttons and seeing if anything it wrong. If your not comfortable doing that, you'd be better off returning the player. I take apart stuff all the time, so it frequently requires less personal effort to take apart the md and fix it than to return it, but returning it is a more "reliable" way of having a fully function MD unit. So, your choice, good luck either way!
  19. I actually like all the topics, it makes everything more straight forward.
  20. Andy, it looks like your right, that certainly does sound like LP2 is stereo. My fault, I thought I had read somewhere that both LP modes were joint stereo. Thanks for the correction!

I e-mailed you the link, check it out.
  22. Yanno, I think I'm braindead, cause I've seen that pic like a million times. Isn't that a UK model? I wish mine was silver...
  23. kurisu, you're not mistaken, the MZ-N707 does have seperate bass and treble. Ara, it looks like your wish has come true!
  24. The MZ-N707 exists in Silver? I live in the U.S. and I've never seen that before, so I strongly doubt it is available here. If you have a pic of a silver mz-n707, could you post it or e-mail it to me? I'd be curious to see it.
  25. When you say white memory sticks, do you mean Magic Gate memory sticks as opposed to normal purple memory sticks? I strongly doubt there is a hack for that...although it there is one, I want it for my Clie!
