Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread? [part II]
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
Welcome, Tarcka. This has been covered before, but I'll answer it regardless. You can put music onto a Hi-MD disk without conversion [like *.mp3], but it will not be playable on the unit. A Hi-MD disc has a few parts to it [putting this in basic terms]: the data section and the music that is playable in the unit itself. These two are completely independent from one another. So, you can transport the *.mp3's to another computer or keep them as storage, but to hear them on the unit they'll have to be converted to ATRAC. -
Yes, as long as the computer in question can register a USB mass storage device [which most newer generation computers can].

Nero + Simple Burner Method: A Guide [+ download links]
Christopher replied to Jermz's topic in Minidisc
Good points. I think that this method is a bit outdated, but will be useful to those who search for it. It's life as a sticky is over, though. -
There are some great recommendations in this thread for all shapes and sizes. It looks like jadeclaw's recommendation is the most compact [and probably functions somewhat well], whereas the aforementioned Audiotrak Optoplay [with it's 5 ft usb cord] has it's quirks, and the M-Audio Sonica is a good base for laptop [and possibly home if you felt inclined] audio. Maybe you guys should list other options, and I could consolidate them into a list and post it into the Live Recording forum as a sticky [preferbly ones with digital I/O], and here as well?

God bless Sony's DRM! :whatever:

I hope I'm not the bearer of bad news, but the NH700 does not have a digital amp. Also, you won't be stuck with analog dubs, either. Just do a 1:1 realtime upload through the USB playback functionality of the unit. I'm having reservations about buying one of these units now [NH900] since Hi-MD media is in short supply. Maybe I'll hold off until the media is for sale at Wal-Mart for that hypothetical price of $9.99 a 3/pack ensuring I don't get frustrated having to use 300mb discs.

..and could also make upgrades [to make the site faster] come steadfast. Any time you guys buy anything from Audiocubes, Minidisco or Minidisc Australia and use our affiliate links it gives us a very very small cut. These little percentages add up over time, however.
-
No problem, HH. If anyone orders anything from audiocubes, make sure you click on our affiliate banner on the top of the forums [if you don't see it hit refresh a few times] to get there first.

Regardless of what the manual is, we have it in it's English form. http://minidisc.org/manuals/sony/Sony_MZ-N...tion_manual.pdf

Welcome, Zeus. USB playback only works with Hi-MD units.

The speed is fine for me. *shrug* If you have a bunch of windows/tabs going it will be sluggish [during peak hours]. I'll just ignore your comment, Daijou. Anyway, welcome aeriyn to the moderating team.

Read this thread and do exactly what it says in the reinstall directions: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4171

Sony RM-MC40ELK + Sony LIP-4WM for sale at Audiocubes!
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
Yes. They are quite different. Do you need a replacement? -
No, you're not understanding me. You need to go into your REGISTRY and remove the specified things. If you do not follow the reinstall directions in the NetMD faq, then I cannot help you.
-
So you're telling me that you uninstalled all of Sonicstage, OpenMG and did the registry edits before you tried to install again?
-
Welcome to the forums. Please read the NetMD faq found in the NetMD forum and uninstall via the directions it gives and then install Sonicstage 2.1 from connect.com.
-
Yes, Simple Burner 2 is hosted at forums.minidisc.org, here: http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/details.php?file=2 You need to be registered with the forum to grab this download - registration is easy and free. A nifty utility that allows one to rip cd's to MD without Sonicstage - it requires that it's installed, at least. This version is compatible with NetMD and Hi-MD, and also features PCM support.
-
That's correct. You can record a disc in mono mode and get double the playing time with the obvious sacrifice in quality.
-
Welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, no, this unit is not MDLP compatible. You can find more information about it here.

NH900 should be out before the NH1 AFAIK. I would expect it to ship perhaps a half-week to a week before? Has anyone in the UK got a NH900 on pre-order that can give us a little more insight to this?
-
I love it when you two pick at each other. It's entertaining [and not to mention usually a good read if you keep it within the bounds of sanity]. [just don't cause one another to leave, otherwise I'll bap yeahs]

I look forward to your review and possible observations about the Hi-MD live recording process. If it's over 500 words I'll throw it in the Product Reviews subforum. You excited? Hopefully Hi-MD blanks will be common in Canada soon.
-
If someone can crack the .hrm file then you're set. Moving this to the correct subforum..
