Thanks for the reply. My PC is a 2.2 GHZ AMD Athlon running XP Pro. It has a Creative SoundBlaster 5.1 card which has digital out but not optical, I've tried a hook up to the digital, however I get a poor quality recording. I get what you mean about the drivers and stuff. I will need to find a stockist in the UK for the coax to optical converter. After all this I wonder if I would be better off with a MZ N1.

Hi I'm new to this MD lark. I've just got a MZ-R909 for Xmas and would like to hook up to my PC. I believe that an audio adapter is available from Sony to allow USB to optical connection. Is this a good option or not?
