I recorded a radio show on Audacity (5 hours long), transferred it to Sonicstage and as usual I was not able to edit it or add track marks using any of my portables. I thought I would try it with one of my decks. Using the JE470, I was able to divide the tracks at the commercials, delete the track that had commercials and now instead of 1 long recording I have 10 tracks. So the least expensive deck Sony makes allows you to circumvent all of Sony's Sonicstage restrictions???

That makes a whole lot of sense. I wonder if this might be a quick fix for other units with similiar problems. I've had the unit playing, recording, editing and I reconnected it to the USB port. There are no problems with it. It's been working fine.
-
I'm still wondering what it was in the USB connection that fixed the locked up mechanism. And how often this might have happened to other users. I was all prepared to send it to Sony.
-
Jack Daniel's used to do it for me. How you do'en? lol

Try this Also Sony might be able to repair the unit for you. http://www.minidisc.org/r3user/cover.html http://www.minidisc.org/r3user/32.html

I've read that these cleaners should not be used at all. The oldest unit I have is my G750. had it for 5 years before it stopped working and not once did I ever use a cleaner disc. On rare occasions I used a small blast from compressed air cans (held at a good distance) to blow dust build up away.

In a last ditch effort to get my MD working I hooked it up to my computer this morning using the USB port, (no battery) using Sonicstage. I inserted a minidisc with recordings on it and the machine started to whirl away unlike the repeated soft clicking with my last attempts. It listed all the selections on the disc and I was able to listen to the recordings in the headphones. It was playing the disc. I disconnected the cable, shut the unit off inserted a battery and a disc, and low and behold it's working again. I don't know what the USB port connection had to do with the mechanism being stuck. When the unit failed to read a disc initially, it wasn't connected to my computer. Whatever it was the player is working again.

So I take it Sony is not going to update this at all with a new player. Most disappointing! What are we all to do a few years from now when our current units start to fail. Could there be a collective effort with all minidisc fans to petition Sony to continue production? If we had an email addy of the powers that be, perhaps we could deluge Sony with emails.

I let it sit overnight with no power connected....still not playing. I went to the Sony sight. This model no is from Canada. It does not exist in the US. Kind of strange. I have all the papers but I'll get in touch with the dealer first. Perhaps I can just return it???

My new NH700 just broke down. Will not play or turn off when It's on. I don't get it. I removed a disc and inserted a different one and all it does is whirl. It sound like its trying to find the beginning of the disc to play. One minute is was perfectly fine and the next minute it was broke. I tried everything IE: Inserted a different disc, turned off the unit removed the battery and pressed play to clear the capacitor, tried it with AC connected. Even held the unit between my knees and clucked like a chicken. Had this less than a month...Never dropped or mistreated. Anyone have the same problem with this model. I'm very upset!

That I did not know! That ain't good. So Sony is going to leave us all high and dry with this wonderful technology. Sort of like being all dressed up with no place to go. I checked out minidisc Canada. Their selling the RH1 for $310 US dollars plus whatever the shipping is (probably around $25). Minidisco is selling the M200 (RH1 with the mic) for $350 with a 20 dollar discount including tax and shipping. $330.00 is not a bad price for the M200.

Hi ZosoIV. thanks for your reply...It appears I have to do some research before I buy this unit. (all my LP4 recordings are non musical, voice recordings)
-
I have been going back and forth on which unit to purchase and I decided on the M200 for the price, and the sellers reputation. (MiniDisco). Their offering the M200 for 350 plus a 20 dollar discount including delivery and no tax and it includes the mic. All an all that sounds pretty good. I'm still confused about one thing however. I know this unit will allow me to transfer my personal recordings to my computer AND allow me to edit them and then copy them to a CD. All of my personal minidisc recordings are recorded with standard LP4 (not HI-MD). On one sellers site I read that you can only transfer LP2 recordings or higher quality. I went to the web manual on this recorder but I can't find any reference to it. Before I purchase this model I just want to be sure I can do what I would like to do and why I'm buying it in the first place. I have many mini-disc recordings (2,000) recorded from the Sony MDS JE480 deck on LP4 mode. I want to HI-SPEED transfer these recordings to my computer, edit them (by adding/deleting tracks) and then ripping them to a CD. Thanks in advance for the response.

I'm trying to find the best price I can for the Sony RH1 OR M200 minidisc player/recorder yet all the people I talk to over the phone say this is a discontinued item and Sony no longer makes them. So...all the RH1's and M200's I see on web sites are the end of the MD run?

I wasn't familiar with these so I goggled "plano plastic cases" and found out the manufacturer is Plano Molding Company in Plano, Illinois. I emailed them and asked if they knew the model number of a tackle box associated with Kmart. They have hundreds of plastic cases on their site. Hopefully they will email back with a supplier location. Thanks for the info and I'll let you know when I receive a reply.

I was fiddling around with the CDWave program again but apparently the missing dll file is not allowing me to edit recordings. I get a pop up window telling me of the error. Not a problem. I like the Audacity software, it's free. CDWave was shareware? A fee was required after 30 days.

Your right but for cheap bulk storage they work for me. Before I purchased these boxes I called the company and spoke with a rep. I explained what I intended to store in the boxes. 300 per box of MiniDiscs are heavy. The boxes are made of corrugated cardboard on all sides including the lid and flaps. They are strong enough to support 3-4 boxes laid on top of each other loaded with minidiscs. I tried to find wood wine boxes with a hinged or sliding lid but no luck. I looked at other storage companies but I just cant bring myself to spend 20 to 30 dollars for plastic MD storage that will hold 40 minidiscs. The cardboard boxes are about 2 bucks each.

Hope this is the right place for this topic. Instead of buying $20 plastic cases to store minidiscs you might consider Uline cardboard boxes for bulk storage. I have a lot of minidiscs (2000) and storing them became a problem. If you need bulk storage for your discs you might want to check out their site. I have absolutely no affiliation with these people and the moderator can delete this post. I just thought some mini disc fans might find this helpful for storage. I purchased this one. I had to buy 20 (min order) but they are really good for other things as well. They come with a handle and are extremely sturdy. Other smaller boxes are available so check it out. http://www.uline.com/ProductDetail.asp?mod...73&ref=1401 It will hold 196 disc's (in their case) upright. With another 100 or so laid down. 296-300 per box total.

I dl'd the program but it says I need a required dll that was not found. It suggested I not download it but I did anyway. I checked it out and I like the double wave window. It allows me to find parts of the recording easier but I'll need to futz with it some more. I can't seem to be able to delete the parts of the track I don't want. I'm sure it's me but I'll let you know. Thanks for the link.

Hi A440. I tried that. I recorded a radio show (about an hour and 45 minutes) directly into Audacity from a satellite radio feed to my computer. I transferred it to a wav file (MP3 transfer sounded harsh to me) then I transferred it to a minidisc using Sonicstage. It was then I found out I could not edit on the MD machine. Anyway, I went back to the wav file on Audacity and attempted to edit the file (cutting out commercials) but found it very tedious. I would have to wade through the wave form display, try and locate the beginning then the end of the edit and hope I didn't delete anything important. That why they have a redo button I guess. After several attempts I found it frustrating and gave up. When I record a show on a minidisc from my receiver, it plays for 5 hours and 23 minutes. I would edit out anything I didn't need on playback. Going through almost 6 hours of recording each day using a program that forces me to edit a wave form would make me totally battso even if I were paid to do this. I am checking out CD Wave thanks for the info.

Thanks A440 and raintheory for the response. The more I'm getting into the software issue the more upset (angry is really a better word) I'm becoming. I see what has been frustrating you guys for all these years and what eventually led the minidisc technology to the state it's in now. Sony's moronic paranoia!!! You would think that they would have allowed personal recordings to be edited from their software with the proviso that copies would have reduced quality. They could have had that written in I'm sure to allow some sort of audio degradation that would have satisfied casual users. I'm still pondering the purchase of the RH1. With this machine I can edit from Sonicstage though? I just want to be sure before I give up $300.00 to Sony again. If I do make the purchase the repairs on my G750 will have to wait. I did take some notes on the quality/speed/flexibility using Sonicstage and Audacity. I must tell you that I am amazed with the technology. Ones and zero's organized in such a way. I remember the first audio cassette (oppsy, I'm dating myself) and 8 track tape, then Dolby, then Dolby B, and C. My Nakamichi tape deck on the best of settings doesn't hold a candle to minidisc.

Hi there, I'm relatively new to the software and Sonicstage so please bare with me. I recorded a radio program using Audacity, saved it as a wav file then transferred it to a minidisc using Sonicstage 4.3. It transferred fine and the recording quality is pretty good. I tried to enter a T mark because the program is over 2 hours and I also want to edit out commercials. Am I doing something wrong because I cannot edit, or add T marks. It says "track from PC no edit". Is Sonicstage preventing me from editing my own recordings? I'm using a MZ-NH700 minidisk. After reading a few post in here I have answered my own question. Yes Sonicstage is preventing me from editing my own recordings. Please don't respond to this silly post.

It would if I could find another G750. I really liked this model. The controls and screen are large enough, and being able to hold on to my original unit plus having Sony do the repairs would be worth it. I was foolish enough to try to bid for one of these on ebay only to find out that after going as high as 150.00, there was always someone who would go higher...then I read about price fixing. Where the original seller would have a friend bid on it to raise the price. Compared to the features this unit has over similiar units that go for about $100 today...it's worth it to me.
