  1. Hi, My N910 has decided to stop playing MDs. For a couple of weeks it was sticking in the middle of tracks at random and I had to take the disc out to restart it. Now it just won't recognise a MD when I put it in, it makes the same stuck whirring sound all the time. Any ideas much appreciated?
  2. Nice to know there are people out there who like to just record stuff! Like forests, cities or whatever.
  3. Thanks! I had a look at that thread, so the answer is no, despite its limitation Hi-MD is the best recorder/uploader.
  4. It's amazing isn't it (and typical of Sony) that they have this incredible product that just doesn't quite hit the mark. They could blow iPods out of the water, with reusable, interchangeable 1GB low cost disks in a portable player.
  5. I guess this has been asked, but I can't find a succinct answer. What alternatives to Hi-MD are there for mic recording and line-in, including upload? Do any of Sony's solidstate players offer this? What other truly portable devices do this?
  6. Will Hi-MD units be next? Is there any hardware issues that would prevent this?
  7. I guess SonicStage can only get better. Version 2 is a fair bit quicker than 1.5 was.
  8. Could uploading of analog recordings on old MDs be a feature they could add in the future? Assuming they wanted to, though it seems they don't.
  9. Yeah but don't people say the batteries on your Ipod is a bit crap, plus I've stuck with MD this far I might as well see it to the end. Plus it's nice to have multiple 1GB selections than just a big, big, chunk of stuff which might die on me sometime.
  10. So the Hi-MD units have been out a little while now, anyone got any ideas on what improvements could be made with future units? Apart from the obvious - like binning sonicstage. Is native mp3 uploading/downloading and playing ever going to be a possibility?
  11. Yeah I guess youre all right, I was loosely trying to justify buying another MD player. It's hard to give up on them even if commonsense says they are no longer the best solution.
  12. Thanks very much, now I'm getting somewhere! So you think the better way to go would be to get an USB external sound card (any recommendations?) instead? Record onto my PC with that and then go from there. I need a new MD player, well a new portable music player, because my NH-910 keeps sticking after 2.5 tracks, and I've been into MD for about 7 years. I wanted to record my vinyl for a long time, and I thought this would be a good method.
  13. Yeah I know, but the line-in on my (Sony) laptop is really crap. The sound always comes out pretty dodgy.
  14. Can I use a Hi-MD recorder to record my vinyl records, then upload them to my PC and preserve them forever in any format I choose e.g. mp3, wma, wav? If so which is the "best" Hi-MD recorder to get the best quality for this, and will converting to wav, mp3, wma significantly degrade the quality? Sorry if this is an old question, my searches on this alluded to this without giving a definitive answer.
