I've had EXACTLY the same problem.. I've spent most of today trying to figure it out and this is what I've come up with........ It's Windows XP! (Don't ask me how!)
I never used to have this problem when I was running OpenMG on Win98 on my laptop, ever since I have used it on WinXP on the PC, I keep getting static type noises on certain tracks..
I completly reinstalled OpenMG on the WinXP PC today and Win98 Laptop, completly removing everything and reinstalling every patch, update etc. I tried exporting 'Mad House - Like a Prayer' (which really highlights the problem) onto the same MD, the Win98 version was fine and the WinXP version had the popping and static when the remixed part of the song started... So yeah
