  1. i have an old standard minidisc recorder and i occasionally experiment with "field recording" or should i say bootlegging? im not an audiophile by any means but i know more than your average IPOD user. but for the last year ive been considering upgrading to what seems to be the ultimate MD! but the hefty price tag has keep me on the sidelines. well its getting to be christmastyme and after much contimplating im ready to fork out between $200-400 on an early christmas gift to myself. but now that sony doesnt seem to want to support and promote their greatest achievement in portable recording, well im having second thoughts. plus i heard they arent even supporting the only software that supports the transfer of the recordings from the mD to the computer. and the new portable mp3/wav recorders are just so user friendly. you just pop the card in your computer and transfer no software is needed. so im hoping people here can sway me either way. please help me if i should still support a dying breed or move into the future???? Thanks for reading, Joey
  2. I recently got back online and i think im ready to take the next step in MDs. I have been reading a bunch about HI-MD. is it true i can upload my recordings? can i upload my old recordings that i recorded on my ancient MD or does it have to be recorded in HI-MD? also with the new HI-MDs can i still record in the standard (PCM format i think thats the name?) and in turn will i be able to upload those recordings? about uploading....how long does it generally take? is it like uploading a file or is it in realtime?
  3. thanks much for all the replies! this turned out to be a more useful thread than i thought. im really starting to like it here! thanks again, joey

  10. hello i just bought a used mz-ne410 today. its my first net md (only my 2 md altogether). it didnt have any manual or software. so i just downloaded SS from here (thank you btw for providing it). im just wondering when i went to transfer some songs from the computer to the md it also gave me the option to tranfer to the computer from the md? i thought this was only possible with "HI-MD"? also i thought SS had audio editing tools ie: trackmarking/fade ins/outs/deleting? if not does anyone have any suggestions on a good but low priced editing software so i can create cd's of my brothers music recordings? also does SS let me create folders and groups so i can navigate through my md's easier when im playing them in the car? thanks for any help, Joey PSS-is this the main minidisc message board or is "minidiscussion" still a good one to go through
  11. i think this is the right section for this post.......... Greetings to my fellow MD-ers, I just want to introduce myself im really still very new to MD-ing (6 months or so altogether). although ive been in and out of here over the last 2 years, i technically am a newbie. especially to the new net-mds/mdlp/hi-md (ive only used a regular MD). i currently have been using the Sony MZ-R37 w/o remote. i have only done direct recording in other words ive never hooked it up to a computer (i dont even think it came w/software). ive done some basic field recording and then hooked up to a home cd-recorder and made a few cd's. ive also hooked up a cd player to the unit and made my my own compilation MD's (it was alot of fun!). i guess i gave up because i was looking to upgrade to the MDLP format because i didnt want to keep switching discs in the middle of my field recordings (they generally were about 1.5 to 2 hours long). then i moved and just havnt gotten around to it. i guess i just want to get more out of my MD. thats why im looking to upgrade! here are the specs im looking for now............... ability to upload/download via usb option for mdlp (2 hr stero recording) mic and line in line out and headphone charger rechargeable battery remote backlight $250.00 price range what i want it for.....i want to be able to make field recordings then take them and upload them (via usb) to the computer and then edit them. i want to delete unwanted parts, do fade ins/out and track marks/etc. then i hope to be able to burn the finished result to a CD. (i assume i can do all this w/ Sonic stage, right? ) also can someone please set me straight on these questions... --if i want to have the ability to upload (via usb) from my minidisc to the computer then the only choice i have is hi MD, right? -if i have hi-MD can i still use the regular media? if so can i also record the regular Md's in MDlp? -at this point is sony the only company that offers the HI-MD format? there you have it my little bio (i hope i didnt bore you) .... i just have those few questions that will help me decide what unit to upgrade to. if anyone has any pointers please reply! thanks if you reply, Joey
  12. Hello Low Volta, Thanks for your prompt reply!!! but as is almost always the case, with the answer comes more questions. i guess i havnt lurked here in quite a long time as my md stuff has been in storage. so can you indulge me on the SS problems but more importantly what precautions i should take if i download SS? thanks, Joey

are there any MD units that one can upload from the MD to the computer? if so, which ones? if they can upload...is it done in real-time or is it transferred like a file? thanks if you reply, Joey
  14. very cool forum! i havent used my md for about 2 years but recently ive been getting back into it. ive mostly been a lurker here but im finally going to post. i have a couple questions do any of you have the sony mz-ne410 (net md)? if so... is it possible to burn someone a copy of the software and still have it work the same (with no side effects) also if i have the mz-ne410 and someone has a newer net md but doesnt have the software will the older software work with the newer hardware (net md)? and vica versa..will the old hardware work with the newer software? thanks if you reply, Joey
