For the casual listener, I'm going to risk being branded a heretic and say that recording concerts in LP2 is fine. Some people say they can hear differences, but these differences, in the concerts I've recorded (club/rock concerts) are very negligable. The best way is to test it out, and listen for yourself.

All a bass rolloff filter does is remove the lower bass frequencies from a recording. Sometimes, in a hall or club, the low freq. rumble can muddy a recording.

The Sharp memory record function works by recording the segment of time (10 seconds, I believe) immediately preceding when the record button is pushed. This is a great function for recording live shows, because it gives you the opportunity to wait until the band starts playing without missing any of the opening notes.

Out of those choices, I'd go for the Sharp 722. Make sure you also get a battery box with bass roll-off to go along with the recorder.

I have a Sharp Md-Mt877 that I bought from soundprofessionals for recording live concerts, and occassionally there will be a skip in the recording. Is this due solely to movement of the recorder while recording, or is it a problem with the quality of the minidisc? And can distortion be caused by the type of microphone used, or rather is distortion due solely to the recording controls used: levels set, whether mic in/line in is used, amount of bass rolloff used? And finally, after recording a concert where the level has been changed while recording, you can notice a distinct change in volume. Is it possible to use a sound editing program to level-out the changes in volume? Which sound program is preferable? THANKS!
