  1. Well, when I wanna have say 3 albums on a disc and the songs of the last album have 60 minutes but there's only 56 minutes left on MD, I'll use LP4 for the last 2-3 songs so that everything fits on one disc.
  2. Go for LP2. Even with very high quality ear- or headphones the difference is not that big. Which phones do you use? You said you don't hear a difference... Go for LP2 then! It's great to have 3 albums on one disc right?
  3. Hey guys. I used WaveLab for noise reduction and it worked GREAT. Tried CoolEdit, too, but the results were worse, it sounded more 'artificial'.
  4. I'm using Wavelab, and I've read something about Auto Gate or Noise Gate, but I don't find this option IN Wavelab... where can I download plug-ins? (downloading cool edit free version right now, thank you)
  5. Hey guys, hope you can help me: I've recorded an interview yesterday and there's a constant, very annoying, hiss in the background. My question is, how can I get rid of it on my PC? Which programs will do that for me? I'd be grateful for every help you can give to me, thank you.
  6. have a look at http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=1114
  7. I bought a simple plain preamp DIY set for $8 at a electronics retailer (mic capsule included), never ever in my life soldered before and it works fine with my 505. It didn't come with a case, but that's easy to build. And it's quite small. When you don't want to use the mic capsule that comes with such a set, just exchange it with a 3,5mm jack and it should work fine with whatever mic you have.
  8. Thanks a lot for your detailed answer! I think I'll try analog recording from the CD deck of the stereo. If the quality is too bad I'll probably try optical recording at my friend's. And if I then find that it's not worth the trouble compared to LP2 I might just stick to LP2... But thanks to you I know about that digital setting in device manager. I always thought it works only analog with that cable from CD drive to soundcard. Thank you!
  9. Thank you very much! So, quality wise: soundcard out worse CD drive out worse stereo out ? fine... that was the answer I needed
  10. 'digital playback' in my CD/DVD drive settings was switched on. When I switched it off I was able to use the analog out of my drive (the one directly on the front of the drive) I guess there's no possibility that this out is a combined analog/digital out? (because it didn't work when digital playback was switched on) And I should maybe explain my question regarding this output jack again: Is there any difference if I use the analog output jack of my CD drive instead of the analog output jack of my soundcard? Maybe clearer, more original sound? Thanks for your answers. Yes, of course I've read the thread regarding the optical out solutions. But I've also read that nobody will hear a difference between a good analog recording (meaning gold plated etc.) and optical. That's the main point of this thread, is there a big difference between a good analog and a optical recording? is good analog recording (meaning one where you don't hear a difference to optical recordings) possible with a PC? is the recording better when using the CD drive output jack (when recording a CD of course)?
  11. okay, sorry, I probably wrote in a way that's easily misunderstood: I was referring all the time to analog cables. I do not have an optical out and was referring to recording analog, not digital. So, same questions again. (will try the analog CD drive out now, thanks)
  12. Okay, my questions: I don't have an optical out so I can't record through my optical in of my MD recorder. As I don't necessarily want to spend lots of money for an optical out, I'm considering buying a gold plated 3,5mm plug connection cable. 1) does that sound like optical? 2) how important is the cable lenght (longer cable - worse quality? do you hear the difference?) 3) is the difference between gold plated and non-gold-plated very big? There's this headphone out at my CD and DVD drive (of my computer). How do I use that? It didn't seem to work, there was no signal, no matter how I changed the volume. Any special settings for that? Should I record from the CD/DVD drive's analog out or rather from my soundcard's analog out when recording a CD? Hope you can help me, thank you
  13. That's exactly what I DON'T want to do - to rush into buying the first headphones I find. I want to choose the headphones carefully. And that's why I'm asking for your opinion here. I'd buy non-Sony headphones, too, but I don't know much about them. So many people say the D66 are the best, even though they are quite expensive. I don't have the possibility to test-listen to all kinds of different phones, that's why I rely on other people's opinions. Anyway, it will take some time until I'll have enough money to buy headphones - lotsa time to think about what to buy. If I buy a new remote before the headphones, I'll even have more time to think about which ones to take.
  14. Wow, thanks for your answer. I think NOW I need the D66 really urgently... and I think NOW I have a REAL money problem... haha... but I need a remote, too... haiz, dunno what to do
  15. So, the G82 are better than the D22? Well, actually I need some headphones for home listening with my MD... I've never read any reviews about the G82, I just know everyone is going crazy over the D66. The price of the G82 better for sure... hm
