  1. I see... thanks! But any ideas about the first question?
  2. Here are the images (I hope that the attachments work) First is the name of the sub-menu and then the two options that there are inside. I have tried selecting each of them and I have not noted any difference at all. [attachmentid=1827] [attachmentid=1828] [attachmentid=1829] Regards.
  3. Hi all, I decided to revamp my mz-n505 and bought a remote for it. I went for the mc35elk, assuming that newer is better. Basically, it rocks! All the basics (and more) work perfectly, only the Group+ and Group- buttons are not functional (but holding the P.Mode button is the same as pressing the Group button on the main unit). My only concern is with the display. I wasn't expecting a two-line display, but all the high resolution of the remote is wasted in big letters that allow for only 6 letters at a time! Moreover, the scrolling is so slow that it takes more than twice the time (compared to the main unit) to display song and group titles. Is there a way to change that? I have noticed that when accessing the menu in the remote it uses a one line display but with smaller letters (which should allow 8-9 characters to fit. Is there an option/hack to use those smaller letters fro songs and groups titles? Another issue: When accessing the menu from the remote, under the 'Option' menu I have three submenus: AVLS, BEEP (I have my n505 partially hacked) and something in japanese or chinese characters. Anybody knows what is that? Regards.

    What's next?

Hi guys, What I like the most of MD is the possibility of having a bunch of disks for only a few bucks. Then I can have most of my CD collection already recorded ('uploaded') in MD format. In this way, when I'm going on a trip, or jogging, or whenever I want to listen to some music, I just pick one or two or ten disks with the music that I like in that particular moment, and.. that's it!! And maybe tomorrow (or on my next trip) I want to listen a completely different set of disks and that is no problem at all with MD. If I run short of disks, it's only a matter of a few $$$. With all MP3 players that I know so far (taking apart the MP3-CD players, they are so bulky that I don't even think of them), I would have to upload the music every time I want to listen to something different!! And I haven't made the calculations to know wether a 40Gb or 60Gb would be enough to hold enouhg music so that I don't have to think about it again. But still, that is 4 or 5 times more expensive than my N505 with my 30 (or even 50) disks. Maybe when memory cards were big and cheap enough.... But for the moment, I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
  5. Hi, I downloaded the service manual for the N505. Is there anything else that I should know before opening the unit? (or before trying to re-assemble it?) Thanks!
  6. Only if you think you've nothing else to do: try inmersing it in distilled water and then let it dry again. Good luck
  7. Hi, I have a n505 and sometimes I have this already discussed problem with the buttons (fw working as back, etc.). From time to time I got this idea of just opening the unit to see wether there is something loose or whatever. But I'm really afraid of messing everything and end having to buy another unit. Is it too difficult to open this unit? (and, of course, re-ensamble it). I have some experience with electronic equipment but not with anything that small. Is there any thing I should know? By the way, I have the service manual for the n505. Thanks.
  8. Yeah, but this will not happen in the 505 because it 'forgets' everything whenever it is turned off. In other words, PDM is useless in the n505.

    Change audio codec...

Bean: How do you listen to your MP3? Because sometimes they can sound failry good through the PC speakers (no matter how good they are) but then with headphones you notice some (if not a lot of) imperfections. And depending on the type of music, 192 kbps can still be not enough.
  10. Yeah, I have a MD with ~120 songs in LP4 mode... and there wasn't enough room to title all of them.

    MZ-N505 Issues

No, It isn't!! I restored the hack values to their originals and I still have the issue. As I told before, sometimes I have weeks without it. But now my n505 is unhacked and the still FW button works (sometimes)the funny way! So maybe it is some design problem.
  12. johnii, the line-out works through the headphone jack. It's one or the other. If you didn't notice, when in line-out mode there is no volume control and the sound is very loud. It is also flat (not equalized). So you have it!

    MZ-N505 Issues

I have the same FW button issue, it sometimes acts as the rev button. But after pressing the button several times (like trying to force it), it functions normally again. Fortunately, it happens only sometimes, and I haven´t had the problem in about a week. And I don't have the other problem with the rev button. I thought that it could be some dirt or dust beneath the button, and/or some design problem that makes the unit prone to 'confuse' the buttons... please tell me if you succeed un-hacking it (mine is hacked too).
  14. OK, Bazirker, I didn't know what kind of 'downloader' you are. But let's face it: there are many forms of unpunished piracy are doing more damage to the weaker than to any other. And that has to be stopped, or at least reduced to a minimun (after all, I do have some copied CDs -~5% of my collection- but you must agree that this is unharmful). Maybe the whole point is that I (and many others maybe) am not so sensitive about privacy; I don't care if they monitor my traffic because I can't imagine what harm can that do to me (besides, it's some time since I gave up downloading MP3s because of poor quality). I guess they will focus in traffic through p2p software which we know that does not have any security. Perhaps I'm being naive about spyware, being confident that they will not be interested in my private information. And as they say "who does nothing, fears nothing" (I translated an spanish saying). I agree with you in the sense that chasing mp3-downloaders will not be a solution, 'cause there will always be a way of escaping it. Maybe the companies have to focus on the added value of buying an original (attractive booklet with lyrics, some key to access online material, etc) rather than punishment. And finally, if someone has to emancipate, they have to be the artists. 99% of non-musician people pleading against RIAA will sound suspicious to me, as if they were trying to justify piracy. That was what I thought of you first, but now I see I was wrong. Just re-think the 'thinnest thread' thing before calling to raise arms against a giant.
  15. Maybe the RIAA is the biggest theft in all of this (or maybe not), but please remember that always the thinnest thread is the first to be broken. So if you are stealing music, the least damage will be to the recording companies and the greater will be either to the musicians or the medium and small music shops. This is what is going on here in Chile, where you can see everybody (musicians, record companies and music shops) pleading against piracy, but the only ones that really have had to close their doors are some smaller music shops (Some have had to lower their prices, and make 'buy 3x2' bargains and things like that, which is a good side of the situation). And we can see musicians, one after another, that cannot succeed because their CD's are being pirated and sold in the streets (well, IMO many of them don't deserve to succeed, but that's another discussion... ) So, the bigger ones will be the very last ones to be damaged by piracy in any of its flavors. Because of that, I'm really happy of the RIAA being after you!!
