  1. You're right... it looks like it only has two sections. Thank you so much for your help! I guess I'll have to find a slightly nicer mic. Thank you so much for your help! You guys are a lifesaver!
  2. So far it seems like this mic has been doing pretty well for me. If you have any suggestions for a better mic, that would be cool, but I really don't want to spend more than $50. It's a back-up audio source that hardly ever gets used, and has done well. For now, though, I'd like to be able to play back the recordings I've already made. Isn't there some way on the N1 to adjust the Left/Right balance?
  3. Hmmm... yeah it was a $30 "Tie-Clip Microphone" from Radio Shack. I'm not sure if it's mono or not. If it is, is there any way to send the mono input to both channels? Thank you so much for your help!!!!!
  4. I'm having a weird issue with my Sony N1. I admit I'm not too familiar with its complex capabilities. I use it mostly as a backup audio source for my wedding videography business. I've noticed that everything I record only plays back in one earbud or one speaker... the sound isn't balanced. I thought that this was because I was using a low quality (LP2 or LP4) for the weddings. But last night I used it for fun for the first time and recorded my friend's band's performance. The recording came out pretty well (I used SP and put the mic sens on low), but when I play it back, it still only comes out on one side of the headphones and one speaker. Did I do something during the recording to cause this? Or is this a simple problem and I just need to adjust the playback balance. I looked all through the N1 manual and haven't been able to figure out how to adjust the Left/Right balance. I apologize for the dumb question, but am thankful for any help you can give!!!

    OldSkool vs. New

I just purchased a Sony MZ-N1 two weeks ago from Tweeter... it was a floor model, priced at $209, with nothing included but the player/recorder itself. The guy didn't have the box, the manual... nothing. He pulled the headphones off another walkman and gave them to me. The rest of the parts will be coming into the store shortly.... they had to special order them for me (there's no charge though, luckily). Now I plan to use the recorder for live recordings (both lectures and concerts) and for general "mix-tape" type stuff. After searching all over at local electronics stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, Tweeter and Radio Shack), NONE carry an MD model with a mic-in. I saw the N1 with the mic-in, saw that the original retail value was $350USD, and decided to go for it. I have another two weeks before the return policy expires. And I have to say that I'm very tempted by the new NF810. I haven't been able to find too many reviews online, but I love the idea of an FM/AM/TV tuner. (I won't be listening to the weather, guaranteed.) Plus, it has a mic-in. I understand that the tuner is attached to the remote, and that I could buy a stand-alone radio, but I just really like the idea of having it all together in one unit. So my question is, should I keep the N-1? I haven't gotten the software yet, so I haven't had a chance to play around with the OpenMG or whatever it is they're goign to give me. Was $225 (including tax) a good buy, or did I pay too much for such an old unit? Should I return it and get the NF810 from some place online, or hold on to what I have? Is the whole MD -> PC runaround any easier on one vs the other? Thanks so much for your help!!!
