If for some reason the MP3 isn't at 44.1 Khz, is there a way to change that too?

I have a Net MD Walkman MZ-NE410. I bought this unit because I would like to transfer some MP3 files from my computer to the unit. The problem I am having is that the software that came with the unit says that the files are incompatible with the unit. It said something about the MP3 files being at the wrong bit rate. Finally, the question. Is there any way to change the bit rate of the MP3 files? I am not the person recording the MP3 files, I receive the files by email.
