I picked up a Sony MZ-S1 to replace my aging Nakamichi tape deck for live recordings. For most music I'm very happy with it. But in quiet piano passages with treble-only notes I get a funny noise in the headphones that I never get with the tape deck. Kind of a grinding noise right in the headset. Only occurs during a note. When more broad sounds are recorded, like a band, it doesn't seem to occur. I'm using SP, tried both manual and auto level. Not overblown -- it's the quiet passages that are trouble.
