  1. You're welcome Ebichuman... What inspired me is when I was trying to enable Kanji display on my E99. Atrac files transferred with JP SS show kanji just fine, but files transferred with US SS do not. So, there must be something diferrent between the 2 sonicstages, and the registry hunting began. When I heard people with HiMD units and ELK remotes cannot display kanji, I thought Sony must have put a similar "region code" in windows' registry for HiMD also. And voila.
  2. Errr, this is a big "DUH." It's like saying the original uncompressed AudioCD is better than HiSP. Of course it is. However, you loose disc space, and when using portable units in actual portabale usage, I doubt that the difference is significant.
  3. I think it's probably regarding the old legacy MD format. I won't be surprised since HiMD uses a more versatile FAT filesystem, and you can use HiMD formatted disc for both data and music, unlike the old incompatible MD data. 2nd gen HiMD units already cannot record to the old legacy formats (SP, LP2, LP4) on the unit itself (you have to use SS). However, I hope Sony doesn't phase out playback compatibility.
  4. To charge when connecting the AC adaptor directly to the unit, after you plug-in the AC adaptor, you need to press the stop button to actually start charging. Don't forget to "un-hold" your unit.
  5. With the way Sony is doing things with HiMD (MP3 playback, data drive), I think there's still some life in MD/HiMD.
  6. I have noticed the same file/directory structure when I burn an AtracCD. As for bitrate, I'm not sure if there are "300kbps" bit-rate as HiSP Atrac3+ is only 256kbps and the original SP is 292kbps. OpenMG and SS can transfer the song as a "fake" SP, but only SS2.0 that support the HiSP. As for the player supporting higher bit-rate, I have an "older" gen atrac3+ PCDP, and at that time, atrac3+ only available as 64/48kbps. Recently I downloaded SS2.0, and my PCDP plays 256kbps atrac3+ just fine, which means your player should be able to play the higher bit-rate since it's still the same codec. Although I don't have the NW-MS70D, I do have the NW-E3, an older Network Walkman, and I don't think you can upload songs to other PCs due to the check-in/out process.
  7. If the newer units cannot record in the old format without reformatting the old media, this means that HiMD could make MD units (especially the player only units) obselete as HiMD units can play everything, but their recordings cannot be read by older MD units (with the exception maybe the LAM-X1). Bummer, especially for newcomers like me. When MDLP and NetMD were introduced, at least the recorders can still record in SP mode for backward compatibility with older non-MDLP units. Hopefully Sony would think about this in the 2nd gen HiMD units.
  8. From what I read form the FAQ, it seems that HiMD units cannot record old SP format in realtime. Older LP format (atrac3 based) can only be recorded via USB, not realtime. This really limits the "backward compatibility" of HiMD, except that it could play the old formats. When MDLP was introduced, at least the new recorders can still record in SP mode. Also, can HiMD units record to an old MD media without reformatting it?
  9. I have the N510ck, and the 33el from a CD walkman, and they work great, no remapping of buttons. I even tried an older remote (MC10L), and it also worked fine. The backlight turns on when u press a button or change volume, and turns off after several seconds. I don't think there are settings to turn it on/off all the time on the N510 (not mentioned anywhere in the manual).
  10. Oh well.... I decided to extend my budget and am getting the Sony-E720. Thanks anyway.
  11. OK, I did some research, and it seems that the Sony E510 is full aluminum, which meets my criteria. I'm still wondering about the Aiwa AM-PX1, the Panasonic models, and Sharp DS30. Anybody have one of these units?
  12. 1. Just use Dino's Nero and NetMD simple burner trick. You can find it in the NetMD section of this forum. 2. If your mic is powered, then I think it should be okay. I have the N510CK, but never tried recording using the optical/line-in. The recording should be pretty good since the N510CK is a type S, which means that you get type R quality if recording in SP mode.
  13. Hi guys, MD noob here. I already got a recorder. Now I'm looking for a player, probably around $170-$200. What I want is a player with whole body metal/aluminum. My candidates are probably these units at audiocubes. http://www.audiocubes.com/index.php?cPath=...e476cf5248f49f8 Anybody knows which one has all metal/aluminum body? (Not half plastic ones)
