That's because they were too busy watching Apple's profits soar with the iPod. Anyway, thanks for clarifying all that. It truly is a convoluted process. Its great this forum of dedicated users is here to clear up the confusion.

One step forward, two steps back I dowloaded LAME mp3 dll, and that was accepted by renderer. I select a track from HiMD, and hit "extract." After a long while, I get a lengthy error message (609-O-4D3) that concludes with: "This track cannot be converted because it is a recorded track. Track extraction will only work with tracks that originated from your PC." What I want to do is record audio on HiMD unit and transfer a track or tracks directly to PC to an mp3 in one step. It seems like the Renderer will not do this -- and I must use SonicStage to a wav then convert it to an mp3 with CoolEdit or another encoder. Thoughts, anyone?

Hey Matt you are great, thanks for all the help. I gotta run now, but I'll try it over the weekend.

Wow , this is what I need. Many thanks for clarifying that. Now... I can't get it to work. I have latest version of renderer... when I hit Scan HiMD, it reads the tracks fine. Then... I chose LAME mp3 as output encoding. It says the dll is missing. But the id3lib.dll is in the same folder as the Renderer executable. Hmmm. Some else posted this at the author's website and the response from Marc was: "Anyway, HIMDRenderer 0.53 uses the much better ID3lib.dll. This DLL is included with the 0.53 release zip. Simply copy this DLL to the HIMDRenderer program folder" But that's what I've done. Perhaps this is a bug in the current release.... Anyway, I'm on the right track!

Thanks for the quick reply Matt. I had already looked at the Renderer. I thought it converts a file that's already been transfered to the PC into different formats. I'm looking for a single step transfer: HiMD track --> mp3 on the PC. Sorry to be so dense.

Just got an MZ-NH700, my first HiMD unit (dirt cheap bundle from Minidisco, btw). I have searched forums and FAQs and pretty much believe the answer to this is NO.. but I'll ask just to be sure: Can I transfer a HiMD track to the harddrive using Sonic Stage and have it converted immediately to an mp3 file? Yes, I know I can have it automatically saved as a .wav, and I can use CoolEdit to convert the wav to mp3 pretty quickly. But that's a two-step process, and I was hoping for a single step. Thanks.

Uninstalling/re-installing did the trick. Thanks for the suggestion, I should have thought of it myself. I do believe InCD was the culprit, although the two seem to be co-existing fine after the re-install.

No, but I was thinking that would be my next step. After I posted this I recalled that I had recently installed InCD, the software that bundles with NERO and lets you use rewritable CDs as virtual floppies. When I try SimpleBurner, InCD is NOT active. However, that's the only system change I've made of late, and since its a CD-related program, it must be the culprit. I will leave InCD installed for now, but reinstalled all my Sony stuff again and see if that does the trick.

It always worked fine. But starting yesterday, Simple Burner now crashes entirely (no lock-up, it just disappears) whenever a CD is accessed. As long as the CD drive is empty, Simple Burner runs fine, reading the MD without problem. I've tried re-booting of course. I deleted major space on the harddrive in case that was an issue. Still, it crashes, each and every time a CD is accessed. Very odd, since it was ran fine and I haven't made any system changes that I recall. Ideas, anyone?

I can play straight through, from one group to the next. I have never tried shuffle, however.

Hello, first time poster here after lurking for a few months. Kudos on a great forum and a great resource. I use MDs both professionally and at home, so I'm glad you're all here! Two questions about check-in/check-out limits in SonicStage: 1) If I have 3 different versions of the same song by the same artist, transfer them to MD, does SonicStage recognize that as 1 song checked out 3 times, or 3 songs checked out once each? This become important with concert versions of an artist's song. 2) I have read in another thread that this will reset the counter: Does this work? If you're wondering why I just don't use the Dino method with Simple Burner to avoid SonicStage... I have, and for some reason I can't get SimpleBurner to recognize the CD text song titles. The same image file read in SonicStage DOES see the song titles. Odd, but it sends me to Sonic Stage.
